Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s level degree preferred.
  • Directly related coursework or direct work experience in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or Curriculum & Instruction.
  • Minimum of two-years of experience with significant technologies that support teaching and learning and with online course design and teaching preferred.
  • Previous experience working with faculty members at a post-secondary institution preferred.
  • Experience in creating accessible online classrooms preferred.
  • Experience using social media in an education context preferred.

Position Description

The Instructional Designer will provide support to faculty needed for implementation of research-based pedagogical principals and learning-enhanced technologies for use in local and online courses. The Instructional Designer will provide support and resources to faculty for the design, implementation and assessment of online, hybrid and web-enhanced courses and will assist the department in coordinating with stakeholders to enhance student success.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver an ongoing professional development program that supports faculty in the design, implementation and assessment of curriculum that uses computer-mediated communications, cognitive and interactive media tools, and sound research-based course design for both local and distance learning courses.
  • Deliver professional development, training, and/or support to faculty both face to face and online.
  • Stay abreast of and communicate to faculty new instructional design approaches, best practices for online pedagogy, and emerging educational technology that may be adopted for both local and distance learning opportunities.
  • Develop and maintains an online repository of resources to promote the sharing of resources for curriculum development.
  • Work with distance-learning stakeholders to establish a peer review process for the quality assurance of online courses that meet nationally recognized standards and state and campus requirements for the pedagogical alignment of content, learning activities and assessments.
  • May assists with Moodle related questions, tasks, and reports.
  • May provide backup support for issues related to distance learning.

 

Related Responsibilities:

  • Assist faculty with the conversion of existing material into quality online content.
  • Assist faculty in the understanding and use of nationally recognized guidelines for evaluating online course development and delivery with an emphasis on aligning instructional materials with learning activities, assessment and course outcomes.
  • Stay abreast of issues with both ADA and copyright compliance for online classes in Moodle. Assist faculty with universal and responsive design principles.
