- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Technology, Instructional Design or related field.

- Experience with Learning Management System.
- Experience in developing materials to help train end users.
- Experience with online learning development and support tools such as: multimedia and graphic design tools, collaborative desktop technologies, and web conferencing tools.
- Proven ability to stay current with rapidly changing technologies.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Ability to prioritize, schedule, and meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
- Thorough knowledge of Moodle.
- Demonstrable online course development experience
- Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles.
- Thorough knowledge of ADA requirements in the online classroom.
- Thorough knowledge of copyright, fair use, and appropriate use of digital media in online learning environments.
- Proven ability to develop instructional modules that are based on pedagogically sound principles and practices
- Certified QM Peer Reviewer and Certified APPQMR Facilitator.
The Instructional Designer will assist and support the delivery of Vance-Granville’s online continuing education efforts by providing Learning Management System (LMS) support, training and support for faculty in the area of online teaching and student support. The Instructional Designer works under the supervision of the Director of Distance Education and Distance Education Coordinator and has the following responsibilities in the Distance Education Department. The Instructional Designer’s responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to: designing, developing and maintaining curricula by applying instructional models, and designing instructional content including the development of instructional materials and technologies in consultation with subject matter experts. This position is also responsible for faculty and student support and training, building new course shells applying Quality Matters standards, certifying ADA compliance, certifying copyright compliance, loading and removing users from courses, retrieving Census Reports, and opening and closing courses. This is a hybrid position with both remote and on campus requirements.
This position is assigned to the VGCC Main Campus in Henderson, NC; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 3 day per week of telework after the first 6 months of employment.

- Assist the Director of Distance Education in executing strategies and plans for online learning and continuing education programs that promote the College’s overall strategic initiatives.
- Instructional design, development, and support for the College’s Moodle initiatives.
- Provide information regarding Distance Education processes and procedures using a variety of means including website, e-mail, and hard-copy for the dispersal of information critical to ConEd/CU faculty, staff, and students.
- Help design and deliver ConEd/CU faculty, staff, and student training.
- Work closely with ConEd/CU faculty to develop more instructionally sound, QM and ADA compliant online courses.
- Work closely with ConEd/CU faculty on course development to incorporate learning technologies in the online class environment.
- Develop training materials for ConEd/CU faculty, staff and students.
- Advise faculty on trends, techniques, and best practices in educational technologies, uses and applications.
- Provide technical support to ConEd/CU faculty, staff and students.
- Work closely with DE team to test, document, demonstrate, and recommend Moodle features, tools and other applications for online course development.
- Conduct research and evaluation of proposed Moodle patches, plug-ins and add-ons to identify necessary upgrades to the learning management system and to identify any potential risks associated with implementation.
- Clone courses and create new course shells as needed for each coned enrollment period.
- Assist in enrolling ConEd/CU faculty, staff and students in online courses.
- Assist with opening and closing online coned courses.
- Retrieve Census Reports and other reports as needed.
- Assist Distance Education Coordinator and Director of Distance Education as needed to support curriculum programs and courses.
- Participate in college committees as necessary.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
