Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION AND JOB DUTIES

Central Piedmont is in search of an Instructional Lab Facilitator - HVAC. The coursework emphasizes developing and improving critical thinking, articulation, and technical skills. Advanced topics include residential and light commercial system load design coupled with efficient, balanced, and effective air side designs for ductwork, ventilation, and filtration. You will explore through lectures and hands-on experience, advanced control systems for refrigeration and other mechanical equipment, and Direct Digital Controls (DDC). You will also explore how modern residential and light commercial systems improve efficiency and reliability through an integration with today’s building automation systems and wireless technologies. Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:

  • safely and efficiently, diagnose and in a cost effective manner, repair HVAC systems
  • relate theory of heat transfer and electro-mechanical component control to problem solve issues in HVAC systems allowing comfort to be maintained in all types of commercial and residential buildings
  • accurately size basic residential and commercial HVAC equipment and appropriately size ductwork to effectively heat and cool a structure

Program graduates can look forward to careers in many areas of the HVAC profession. Graduates can assist in load design, equipment selection, installation, start-up, service, and maintenance of residential and light commercial mechanical systems.

General Function

Plans and coordinates laboratory activities to support the Skilled Trades, Air Conditioning, Heating and
Refrigeration.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Monitors laboratory activities; enforces rules and regulations and ensures safe environment.

2. Assists students in laboratory classes; assists students with laboratory class-related problems, reviews
student lab work, monitors student progress, and tests.

3. Prepares facility for classes and ensures that work areas are clean and neat; ensures that equipment,
materials, and handouts are laid out for classes.

4. Assists in maintaining laboratory equipment; performs simple maintenance, cleans and stores equipment
when not in use, monitors condition, and notifies supervisor of any needed repairs.

5. Monitors inventory of materials and supplies, initiates ordering process as needed.

6. Researches and evaluates new equipment and makes recommendations regarding purchase decisions.

7. Maintains a library of materials, which may include books, tapes, and digital assets.

8. Monitors activities of part-time student lab assistants; establishes schedules and assigns tasks.

9. Maintains records of laboratory activities and student files including grades and attendance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree in Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration or related field

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary for this position is $41,600 - $48,023. Pay grade for this position is H. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 25% percentile. Contract type is Classified. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
