Position Description

DEFINITION:

The Instructional Support and Design Coordinator supports faculty and student success in the effective use of relevant and engaging instructional technologies and maintains the college’s Learning Management System (LMS). The Instructional Support and Design Coordinator works with instructors in the following capacities: providing technical support for Learning Management System (LMS), teaching and implementing basic and advanced relevant and current instructional technologies in a variety of settings; creating web-based tutorials and other resources; one-on-one troubleshooting, advising departments and individuals on the proper use of technology and tools; ensuring courses/course materials are ADA Compliant; and the teaching of related workshops. The Instructional Support and Design Coordinator collaborates with the Instructional Design Technologist and relevant stakeholders to evaluate, recommend, and promote instructional technologies and course design that meets learning needs and promotes student learning and success. 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives supervision from the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Exercises direction to Instructional Design Technologist.
  • Exercises no supervision.

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve instructor questions and issues about instructional uses of Learning Management System (LMS) and other instructional tools, such as Google Suite, Camtasia, etc.
  • Collaborate with faculty subject matter experts to implement instructional technologies to promote student success and engagement.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Design Technologist and relevant stakeholders in the development of quality, accessible online courses, materials, and technologies.
  • Plan and teach LMS training and other relevant instructional technology workshops.
  • Assist faculty with meeting and maintaining Universal Navigational Design (UND) Standards as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty in ensuring ADA Compliance training and standards for instructional materials in courses.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Design Technologist and other relevant stakeholders to evaluate professional development needs and plan accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Design Technologist and other relevant stakeholders to plan training that prepares students for taking online classes. 
  • Design, develop, and implement technology workshops, web-based tutorials, and various instructional materials and resources for instructors.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and resolves instructor questions and issues about instructional uses of LMS and other technologies and tools.
  • Monitor LMS listservs for problems, potential solutions, and future updates.
  • Test updates, patches, and new tools on the LMS test server to identify potential problems and make recommendations about adoption.
  • Advise instructors on the appropriate instructional uses of tools.
  • Contribute to quality control initiatives targeting face-to-face and online instruction.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data relating to instructional design, instructional technology, and institutional effectiveness use.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate and required records and reports.
  • Supervise development of Online Learning policies and procedures and represent the college in statewide online learning meetings and symposia.

Other Important Functions:

  • Maintain working knowledge of current Instructional Technology programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of ADA compliance guidelines and requirements as they relate to instruction.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate new instructional tools and technologies for potential adoption.
  • Promote the implementation of adopted instructional tools.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Design Technologist and other relevant stakeholders in identifying institutional needs in relation to course design.
  • Identify institutional needs in relation to tool and technology use.
  • Assist in planning and recommending equipment selection and design for instructional needs. 
  • Initiate, plan, and implement ideas for instructional improvement.
  • Manage LMS help ticket system.
  • Serve as the point of contact for tech support and reps.
  • Serve as the Liaison between CFCC IT and Online Learning.
  • Contribute to strategic planning of the Online Learning unit.
  • Generate department reports on the LMS, instructional technologies, as requested.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Some evening or weekend workshops may be required.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge:

  • Current instructional technologies include theories, principles, methodologies, and applications for higher education, as well as learning theories.
  • Current trends and developments in instructional technology and tools.
  • Principles and procedures of program development and administration of instructional services.
  • Statistical reporting and recordkeeping.

Ability To:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both verbally and in writing
  • Model and teach instructional technology programs that will enhance student success

  • Collaborate with the Instructional Designer to identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes.
  • Quickly learn new software in detail; teach the use of the software to others; prepare software use documents as needed.
  • Work well independently.
  • Teach one-on-one and large groups equally effectively.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

    5. Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

    5. Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds
