Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Ability to demonstrate a variety of instructional techniques and methods

Ability to be self-directed, organized, task and detail oriented


Requires a Bachelors' degree and one year of experience teaching English, Reading, Writing, Math, Technology or other content area.

Requires a minimum of one year experience working with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer teaching experience that includes contextualized instruction or use of real life/authentic materials into the curriculum

Prefer teaching experience incorporating technology MS PowerPoint, LCD projectors, or internet based activities into the classroom

Position Description

Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of adjunct faculty to teach ABE/TOPS (Formerly Compensatory Education) classes. Openings for these positions may not exist at the present time; however upon review of your qualifications, you may be contacted directly by the department on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.

*Creates and executes daily lesson plans based on the Adult Basic Education Transitional Opportunities for Post Secondary Success Content Standards, current methodologies and student needs to provide  interactive, contextualized instruction

*Learns and implements technology to enhance instruction

*Works with Recruiter/Retention & Transition Specialists and College & Career Readiness Counselor to identify eligible students who want to continue their post- secondary education

Performs routine administrative functions of the classroom including enforcing student attendance policy, ensuring accurate attendance documentation, obtaining goal documentation, etc.

Participates in scheduled Professional Development and staff meetings as directed

Participates in student retention activities

Assists with student registration as needed

Adheres to all policies of the site at which the classes are held, unless in direct conflict with College policies

Arrives in class on time and prepared to teach for the duration of the contract
