Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in a related field within Advanced Manufacturing and/or Automotive or a diploma, certificate, or appropriate credentials and 5 years of successful experience in related business/industry
- Must posses the ability to teach basic and intermediate classes in a variety of subjects within the Advanced Manufacturing and Automotive areas
- Must be highly organized with a clear understanding of the importance of a clean working environment for both the classroom and laboratory setting; use of knowledge to model and teach students to maintain a clean, well-organized workspace
- 3-5 years of instructional experience
- 3-5 years of work experience in a commercial and/or private sector setting
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Appropriate credentials and ability to teach basic and intermediate welding, electrical, HVAC, and/or automotive skills as it relates to the modern workforce
- Knowledge of or willingness and ability to learn then train on current clean energy skills for repairing, creating, or developing parts, machines, or spaces.
- Industry recognized credentials
- 3-5 years of experience teaching at a community college and in an online environment
Position Description
Position Summary
This position is primarily responsible for providing instruction for multiple programs within the Advanced Manufacturing and Automotive Programs division for curriculum and continuing education classes during the day, night, and online, as well as, developing and updating courses taught in a classroom/laboratory setting at the main campus, Bertie Campus, and assigned high school campuses including, but not limited to Bertie High School and NERSBA; regularly utilizes the LMS distance learning environment for instruction as appropriate for the specific class and institutional requirements for online instruction. Ensures that the students are ready for the workforce by being able to communicate and demonstrate their knowledge.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide classroom and laboratory instruction for students in a physical and online instructional setting
- Instruct day, evening, and online sections as needed for the program and students
- Supervision of students on work-based learning, internships, and apprenticeships
- Ability to teach students in both high school and traditional college settings
- Organize and maintain a clean and efficient classroom and laboratory setting; model and instruct students on the importance of a clean and organized work environment
- Prepare course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, handouts, tests, practical lab evaluations, and schedule classroom activities
- Gather resources for class, conduct critiques, and secure guest speakers
- Select textbooks and develop and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons; use of open resource materials (free textbooks) to reduce textbook costs when appropriate
- Develop, prepare and grade assignments identified to evaluate student performance and based on student learning outcomes and competencies
- Contact students who are absent from class
- Maintain shop and lab safety within current regulations
- Serve as an advisor and counselor to students; provide individual assistance to students outside of the classroom as needed; maintain office hours for students
- Utilize technology to enhance classroom presentations
- Completes various student forms such as attendance, withdrawals, registration, drop/add, credit for prior learning, and credit by examination
- Develop and assess laboratory assignments in both the physical and virtual spaces to provide real to life experiences as appropriate for the specific course content to reach the required student learning outcomes. Provide students with tangible assessment documents that evaluate their ability to complete the outcomes in the laboratory setting
- Advise students, assisting students with career and study skills, assessing college ready placement, referring students for tutors and services, providing help with job placement and contacts, etc.
- Participate in curriculum and course development, evaluation, and change based on workforce needs
- Stay abreast of new developments and changes in assigned academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate • Responsible for collaboration in program advisory committee membership and annual meetings
- Serve on and participate in a variety of college committees and other institutional activities and programs
- Attend required faculty meetings
- Attend graduation and participate in the ceremony
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs and/or accreditation requirements
- Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures that relate to required teaching area
- Collaborates with the Director of the Career Center to bring potential employers to the students and to stay current with regional employment options.
- Serve as mentor to adjunct faculty in assigned academic area
- Assist students and the department with pre-registration and registration activities
- Compose, prepare and distribute reports to include but not limited to end-of-semester reports, grade reports, accrediting reports, etc., and other documents
- Request and order supplies and materials as needed
- Fill in for other instructors as needed
- Assess the relevancy and impact of lesson content and teaching methods; revise and improve lesson format; request books for the Library
- Serve as a liaison between students and administration
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of students
- Oversee and participate in field trips as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
