Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in chemistry or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in chemistry from a regionally accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful teaching experience in a community/technical college or similar post-secondary institution.

Position Description

Full-time, 9-month faculty position teaching courses in chemistry. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, online, hybrid, NCIH, and off-campus locations. This individual will also participate in the course and curriculum design, development of student learning outcomes and assessment, serve on college committees, advise and register students, maintain office hours, and fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required—flexibility and willingness to change depending upon the needs of the students or the institution.

Chemistry courses taught on our campus: CHM 130, CHM 151, CHM 152, CHM 251, and CHM 252. These are courses in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Priority is in CHM 130, CHM 151, and CHM 152 (General Chemistry Courses. Organic Chemistry (CHM 251 and 252) is also possible but less frequent. The instructor is also expected to manage the lab portion of their courses by teaching the lab sections, managing the lab space, and ordering lab supplies.

1. Exhibit an understanding and acceptance of the “open door” philosophy of Beaufort County Community College.
2. Instruct all programs or courses assigned according to published curriculum outlines.3. Incorporate innovative and creative teaching techniques where desirable.
4. Develop competency-based course outlines, behavioral objectives, and learning cycles for courses taught and reviewing as scheduled.
5. Develop and distribute syllabi to students for all courses taught.
6. Be responsible for administrative aspects relating to FTE reports, end-of-semester reports, posting grades, and submitting book orders to the Lead Instructor.
7. Present any problems, suggestions, and recommendations for improving instructional services to the Lead Instructor or Dean.
8. Maintain availability of a minimum of thirty hours per week, including teaching, committees, and office hours.
9. Advise students in college transfer programs, assist students with appropriate registration, and monitor the advisee’s academic progress (courses for graduation, courses taken in sequence, etc.).
10. Refer students to the appropriate campus resources to address academic needs, counseling, student support, or financial concerns.
11. Maintain a high, current subject matter expertise by actively participating in professional organizations and attending professional meetings.
12. Assist in the selection of learning resources in the appropriate subject area(s) and encourage students to use these materials.
13. Serve as a faculty advisor-sponsor to student activities or requesting organizations. 14. Attend commencement exercises.
15. Serve on committees and fulfill assignments.
16. Attend all faculty meetings as scheduled.
17. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Instructor and Division Dean and VPAA.
