Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent oral, written, and listening skills

Ability to pass a NC  Department of Public Safety criminal background check and attend applicable training for NC Department of Public Safety

Ability to work in a correctional setting and comply with all policies and guidelines of the NC Department Public Safety

Self-directed, organized, task-oriented, detail-oriented and flexible

Ability to relate, collaborate and communicate well with individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic groups with respect and sensitivity

Ability to develop original lesson plans and curriculum that incorporate contextualized instruction and real-life/authentic materials

Ability to demonstrate a variety of instructional techniques and methods

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products,

Knowledge of HVAC and electrical Wiring industry

Pair classroom instruction with hands-on training that prepares students for successful transition into the community

Maintain appropriate certifications to be able to administer tests

Knowledge and ability to utilize technology into the classroom Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive and accurate knowledge of HVAC and electrical wiring

Ability to display ,interpret and evaluate the theories of HVAC and electrical wiring and then translate related fields

Knowledge of NC criminal justice process

Available to work a flexible schedule, as needed, including day and night hours

Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent

Two years' experience in the HVAC industry

 Must be certified in refrigerant recovery Type I, II, OR hold a Universal EPA Certification

Must pass criminal background check, security clearance, and attend applicable NC DPS training
 

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree in vocational training

Five years' experience working in the vocational industry

Two years' teaching experience in a correctional facility

Two years' experience teaching  in Community Colleg

Position Description

This position is responsible for providing Vocational instruction and educational training programs to NC Department of Public Safety (NC DPS) inmate population. 

 

 Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions):To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. *Establishes and executes meaningful learning objectives

*Plans, organizes and provides instruction using level specific materials and methodologies to maximize student learning

*Adjusts instructional strategies, when needed, to meet diverse student needs

*Reviews and submits accurate Workforce Continuing Education course paperwork in accordance with registration and records requirements

Attends NC Department of Public Safety meetings and educational trainings sessions, as required 

Participates in the selection of instructional materials and development of curriculum, collaborating closely with NC Department of Public Safety personnel on transitioning programs and approval of new courses

Learns and implements technology to enhance instruction

Complies with all rules, regulations and policies of NC DPS and the correctional facility

Administers tests, documents and analyzes results in a timely manner

Participates in scheduled In-Service training, staff meetings and professional development trainings and activities

Provides input on programmatic changes and serves on college committees, as appropriate

Promotes continuous improvement by completing an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or a group basis
