Minimum Qualifications

1. Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
2. Strong oral and written communication skills.
3. Technological proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prior teaching experience in a high school setting and/or at a post-secondary level.
2. Previous experience in the legal field.
3. Experience with online instruction at a collegiate level.

Position Description

The Instructor, Criminal Justice reports to the Coordinator of Criminal Justice. This position is an instructional position and requires maintaining a workload based on college policy. In addition to the regular responsibilities of classroom teaching, instructors should demonstrate concern for their own professional growth, for their immediate fields of interest, for the education profession in general, and for the progress and well-being of the entire College community.

Essential Duties
Instructional duties include the following:
• Maintaining an acceptable work load based on College policy.
• Maintain and update current texts, videos, etc. to meet program and industry needs.
• Foster and maintain a nurturing learning environment and a program workplace emphasizing institutional core values.
• Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through continual study and research and through involvement in professional organizations.
• Maintain records of student attendance and grades according to college and state policy and procedure.
• Maintain annually updated course syllabi and provide each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of the semester including texts, course content and competencies and evaluation.
• Prepare course materials; use appropriate teaching techniques including delivering lectures, leading discussions and conducting laboratory demonstrations; and perform other activities, which are related to and meet the requirements of the courses.
• Conduct evaluations of student performance and assign grades on the basis of such evaluations.
• Maintain posted office hours as required by College policy and procedure and be available for student conferences and tutoring.
• Responsible for the development and revision of course content, textbook/equipment selection, instructional materials and teaching assignments/scheduling.
• Responsible for administering student surveys in classes as prescribed by College procedure.
• Act as an advisor for students regarding courses required in the program and advise other interested individuals relative to programs and affairs.

Other duties include the following:
• Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator, Department Head, or the Division Dean.
• Cultivate faculty and staff professionalism, camaraderie, and the pursuit of excellence.
• Serve on faculty, college and/or University and Community College System of North Carolina committees as appropriate.
• Donate academic expertise in the local, state or national community when appropriate to fulfill the community relations goals of the College.
