Minimum Qualifications

Education Required

  • Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts, Baking or Pastry Arts, Food Service Technology, Hospitality Management or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
  • ServSafe certification or eligibility to attain it within 90 days of hire
  • American Culinary Federation certification as a Culinary Educator or eligibility to attain it within 1 year of hire
  • American Culinary Federation certifications in pastry or the eligibility to attain it within 1 year of hire (e.g. Certified Working Pastry Chef (CFPC), Certified Executive Pastry Chef (CEPC) or Certified Master Pastry Chef (CMPC)

Experience Required

  • Three years of recent experience as a full-time culinary professional including supervision of food preparation
  • Three years of recent work experience in baking and pastry
  • Post-secondary teaching and/or professional training experience in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars

Preferred Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree or higher in Culinary Arts, Baking or Pastry Arts, Food Service Technology, Hospitality Management or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution

Experience Preferred

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. Every faculty member is responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.

The Division of Business, Creative & Performing Arts at Guilford Technical Community College seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, and collaborative Culinary Arts/Baking and Pastry educator to join our team as a Full-time Instructor. Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach courses designed to support our Culinary Arts/Hospitality Management Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree programs and Baking and Pastry Arts credentials to include Sanitation and Safety, Baking I and II, Specialty Baking courses, Culinary Skills I and II, and any other courses as assigned. The successful candidate should be prepared to integrate technology skills into the classroom, be available to teach at times and locations that meet the needs of students, and be committed to working constructively with all facets of our program within a community college setting.
