Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in Early Childhood Education, Birth-Kindergarten Education, or a closely related field. Applicants with multi-disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant experience in the Early Childhood field and teaching experience in a community college or university setting.  Experience delivering online and/or hybrid courses. Industry or national certifications also a plus.

Position Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Mastery of Subject Matter
    1. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
    2. Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
    3. Connect their subject matter with related fields.
    4. Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.
    5. Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.
  2. Teaching Performance
    1. Teach a course load appropriate to their field, discipline, and position title (faculty 18-21 hrs. per semester).
    2. Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
    3. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
    4. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
    5. Employ available instructional technology when appropriate.
    6. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives.
    7. Incorporate core competencies and general education competencies into curriculum.
    8. Develop, update, and post course syllabi in a timely manner.
  3. Evaluation of Student Learning
    1. Establish meaningful and accurate student learning outcomes for courses and programs.
    2. Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress towards student learning outcomes.
    3. Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
    4. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to registrar.
  4. Support of College Policies and Procedures
    1. Teach classes as assigned by the College.
    2. Teach credit or non-credit courses within field or discipline as needed.
    3. Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation.
    4. Serve as faculty advisor within the current college advisement system.
    5. Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies.
    6. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
    7. Substitute for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence.
    8. Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
  5. Participation in College, Division, and Departmental Activities
    1. Serves on college, divisional, and departmental committees as assigned.
    2. Participate in meetings and events required by the college, division, and department chairs.
    3. Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and department chairs.
    4. Support both part-time and full-time colleagues.
    5. Contribute to program and division curriculum development processes.
    6. Participate in graduation ceremonies.
    7. Provide attendance data as required.
    8. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators, as an individual or as part of a team.
  6. Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
    1. Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans.
    2. Contribute to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels.
    3. Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the college and its constituents.
    4. Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the college, division, and departments.
  7. Duties may include both day and evening hours.
