Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Associates degree in Gunsmithing or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Must meet minimum SACSCOC criteria and the minimum criteria of other pertinent accrediting, licensing, and credentialing agencies in the area of teaching assignment. 

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • At least two years’ experience in the Gunsmithing field required.
    • Experience with the following is preferred: Trigger and action jobs; Professional use of manual lathes, manual milling machines, band saws/grinders and other required hand tools; Experience with various firearm related coatings and a wide variety of firearms 
  • Be eligible and willing to apply for and receive a Federal Firearms License (FFL).
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
     
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending required.
  • Exposure to typical elements associated with a Gunsmithing classroom and lab environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior college teaching experience preferred
  • Community college teaching experience preferred.
  • Online teaching experience using alternate learning management systems preferred.

Position Description

SUMMARY

OPEN UNTIL FILLED  - Review of applications will begin 2/23/22

This full-time position is primarily a 9-month assignment (August to May); however, a supplemental, additional assignment may be required between May to August. 
 
Responsible for the preparation, delivery, and evaluation of courses including preparing lectures and teaching students in classroom and lab environments, evaluating and grading student tests and assignments, fostering student success and completion, making recommendations for updating course design and/or syllabi as needed, and following established instructional procedures and protocols. Position requires the teaching of both day and evening classes at multiple instruction sites and through multiple modes, including CCP/CTE Pathway, as required.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Create new curriculum and content for Gunsmithing program (Pending SACSCOC approval, anticipated program start of Fall 2022); Develop new courses and select and recommend appropriate instructional materials and textbooks
  2. Teach assigned classes using a variety of instructional methods to achieve student learning according to expected outcomes.  Appropriately teach or present information, ideas, and skills in ways that accommodate different learning styles of a diverse student population.
  3. Provide students with the approved course syllabus and relate instruction and evaluation to that syllabus.
  4. Treat students with tact and respect, maintain collegial relationships, and work productively as a member of a team.
  5. Evaluate achievement with timely interim and final student performance evaluations and assign grades that reflect College policy and the achievement of course objectives as stated in the syllabus.
  6. Maintain a high-degree of flexibility to be accessible and accommodate student needs, which may require meetings outside of scheduled classroom or office time.
  7. Maintain instructional quality and effectiveness through ongoing evaluation of the course and the course’s syllabi and making recommendations revisions as needed.
  8. Maintain class records and submit required reports in a timely manner.
  9. Serve on college committees.
  10. Due to the ongoing evolution of technology, this position requires the regular updating of technical and instructional knowledge, skills, and abilities through professional development or coursework. 
  11. Attend and otherwise participate in scheduled Department, Division, and College meetings and participate in graduation.
  12. Maintain currency in content areas through appropriate professional development.
  13. Participate in activities that enhance the College’s service to students and to the community.
