Minimum Qualifications

  • AAS Degree in Information Technology (IT) or a closely related field
  • CCNA Certification or higher within 6 months of hire
  • Must have Cisco Instructor Trainer Qualification or obtain it within one year of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • ​MCSE or other Microsoft certifications
  • Security+
  • Two years of experience in an IT related field
  • Teaching Experience
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems and virtualization using VMware products.
  • Bachelor’s degree

Position Description

Instructor, Information Technology and Cisco Academy Support Specialist, provides quality learning experiences, facilitates and evaluates the learning process, mentors students, participates in job-related professional development opportunities, and contributes to the development of curriculum and continuing education courses/programs. This position also provides daily support for the Cisco Academy Support Center.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach program material via seated and online classes as required by the schedule
  • Learn new material to keep up with changing technology
  • Facilitate regular and substantive interaction via proactive communication with students
  • Participate in recruiting for new students
  • Ensure classrooms, labs, and lab equipment are in good repair and maintain a safe environment for students and employees
  • Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise
  • Support operation and expansion of the Cisco Academy Support Center / Instructor Training Center

 

Classroom Instruction

  • Teach all assigned courses, a range of 15 – 18 contact hours per semester, for the full duration of scheduled instruction.
  • Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, incorporates appropriate content and pedagogy, and is relevant to current events/trends.
  • As needed, teach classes online, on-campus, and/or at off-campus sites.
  • Teach an academic success class as needed.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback.
  • Maintain regular, appropriate, professional communication with students.
  • Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
  • Ensure cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
  • Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate person(s).
  • Participate in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, audiovisual aids, support and equipment needs.
  • Develop and distribute course syllabi according to the established template and guidelines, providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations, evaluation criteria, and access to student support services. 

 

Other Services to Students

  • Maintain appropriate accessibility for students, including a minimum of five office hours a week.
  • Serve as an educational mentor to assigned students by providing academic and employment planning.
  • Maintain regular, appropriate, professional communication with students.
  • Participate in semester advising and registration activities as needed.
  • Verify graduation degree audits as assigned.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College.
  • Advocate and provide motivation for students.
  • Communicate student needs to Program Head or Department Head.

 

Divisional Administrative Expectations

  • Prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner meeting all deadlines, checking for accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data.
  • Remain current in discipline and instructional methods through professional development activities offered by the College and other opportunities including attendance at off-campus activities, webinars, etc., as approved.
  • Participate in annual planning, program and curriculum review. 
  • Serve on and actively contribute to college committees as assigned.
  • Participate in campus activities.
  • Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced co-curricular activities of the College. 
  • Maintain regular, professional communication within the college and affiliated industry contacts.
  • Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations and meet the needs of the discipline, department, division, and College.
  • Support all functions of the College, including compliance with all facets of the College's policies. 

 

Other Duties Specific to this Position

  • Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
  • Create, administer, grade, and maintain records for exams, projects, activities and reports for evaluation of students in each course.
  • Participate in evening programs/classes as a part of his/her normal full-time load.
  • Work productively as a team with colleagues.
  • Teach or instruct students effectively (both seated and online), including persons who do not have a technical background.
  • Participate in the evaluation of and acquisition of materials, audiovisual aids and equipment needs.
  • Participate in professional organizations, attend conferences and attend workshops when appropriate.
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention for computer-related curricula.
  • Arrange for guest speakers, field trips, etc., when appropriate
  • Maintain daily office hours as part of the weekly workload.
  • Help install and maintain the hardware and software in the computer labs when necessary.
  • Assist program head in developing schedules, annual budget, etc.
  • Prepare needs for equipment and supplies, prepare travel documents, and recommend purchases when appropriate.
  • Participate in the revision process as needed for course(s) or curricula in current field or related areas.
  • Attend graduation and other required activities.
  • Keep up with the changing technology by attending classes, getting certified, doing self-study, etc.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Assist Cisco academies in locating training and other services.
  • Provide administrator orientation and support for supported academies.
  • Deliver training for Academy Connection and New Experience Academy tasks.
  • Assist Cisco academies in equipment ordering and support process.
  • Develop marketing materials for SCC’s Academy Support Center.
  • Work with SCC’s Instructor Training Center to create instructor training schedule.
  • Manage academy support contracts with all support Cisco academies.
  • Help administer and support SCC’s Netlabs systems.
  • Create ongoing business plans for Academy Support Center.
  • Maintain current industry certifications as needed for job function (CCNA required).
  • Teach Instructor Training Center courses as needed to meet Instructor Training Center goals.
