Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in drafting and design or environmental design in architecture and three to five years of teaching experience or experience in architecture, engineering, or construction; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.  Must possess a valid NC driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements:   Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office and other equipment  including computer, copier, audio-visual equipment, drafting equipment, etc.  Must be physically able to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work;  position requires walking, standing, stooping, reaching, crouching, fingering, etc. for extended periods of time.  Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately fifty pounds.
 
Data Conception:   Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
 
Interpersonal Communication:   Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.  Includes the giving of instructions to students.  Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.
 
Language Ability:   Requires the ability to read a variety of documents, reports, and various books such as various manuals, PCC handbook and catalog, various texts, PCC FACT book, etc.  Requires the ability to prepare various documents and reports such as lesson plans, grade/evaluation reports, attendance report, end-of quarter reports, long-range plans, etc., using the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar.  Requires the ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, subordinates, other PCC personnel, etc. with poise, voice control, and confidence.  Requires the ability to be conversant in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, voice and diction, phonetics, and discussion and debate.
 
Intelligence:   Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.  Must be able to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Requires the ability to apply rational systems such as education (teaching), architectural drafting, etc., in order to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
 
Verbal Aptitude:   Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions.  Must be able to instruct others via effective verbal communication.
 
Numerical Aptitude:   Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers; determine percentages; utilize decimals; determine time and weight; and apply algebraic and geometric principles.
 
Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
 
Motor Coordination:   Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in utilizing automated office, audio-visual, and drafting equipment.
 
Manual Dexterity:   Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc.  Must have high levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
 
Color Discrimination:   Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
 
Interpersonal Temperament:   Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions.   Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.

Position Description

Under limited supervision, instructs students in various mechanical engineering classes and labs and performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties.  Interacts with and assists students in various areas.  Communicates, interfaces, and coordinates with the administration of Pitt Community College.  Reports to the Department Chair, Industrial Technology.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches various assigned courses and labs in mechanical engineering technology by lecture and/or demonstration as appropriate.  Performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties such as evaluating textbooks; preparing learning objectives, preparing lesson plans, course syllabi, handouts, tests, etc.; gathering resources for class; setting up equipment for drafting labs and computer labs; procuring supplies and equipment; maintaining software and hardware; solving software/equipment problems; conducting critiques of students' work; grading assignments; maintaining files; assisting with developing new courses; etc.  Prepares and/or completes various reports and forms related to classes including 20% reports, end-of-quarter reports, grade reports, rolls, etc.  
 
Performs various student-related duties including recruiting students, advising students,  counseling with students, assisting students with career and study skills, writing letters of recommendation, assisting with graduation activities, etc.  Completes various student forms such as withdrawals, registration, drop/add, and credit by examination. 
 
Remains active in professional organizations and activities.  Keeps abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to the teaching of architectural drafting courses by reading professional journals and attending seminars, conferences, meetings, etc.
 
Maintains good working relationships and communicates information within the Department and with all departments/divisions on campus. 
 
Communicates, interfaces, and coordinates with the administration of Pitt Community College as well as the administrations of Pitt County Schools. 
 
Receives, reviews, processes, files and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as attendance report, grade sheets, evaluation forms, professional development forms, various other forms, memos, and general letters of correspondence.
 
Operates, utilizes, and maintains various types of equipment and supplies including computers, blueprint machines, copier, drafting instruments, overhead projector, general office supplies, general teaching supplies, etc.
 
Assists students with class registration as needed.
 
Serves on various College committees and organizations and attends meetings as required.  Assists part-time instructors and substitutes for absent instructors as needed.  Assists with preparing departmental objectives.
 
Responds to phone calls, providing information and answering inquiries as appropriate.
 
Performs other duties as required.
