Blue Ridge Community College is currently accepting applications for an Instructor of Mechanical Engineering Technology, 9 months. The purpose of this position is to provide quality instruction for all enrolled students in compliance with Blue Ridge Community College's "Open Door" policy. The ultimate goal is meeting the occupational and general educational needs of the students. Areas of instruction include mechanical engineering, robotic integration, process control, systems development, drafting, material science, mechanical design, hydraulics and pneumatics, and related topics. Classes may include curriculum, continuing education, workforce training, or other courses and may be scheduled during the day, evening, weekend, face-to-face, online, or combination.
Education:
Required- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related engineering field
Preferred- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field. Master’s degree must show a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in an engineering-related area.
Experience: Documented practical (hands-on) industry experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics/process control, automation, materials, design, hydraulics and pneumatics, drawing software such as AutoCAD and/or Solidworks, or closely related engineering areas required. Previous college teaching or training experience a plus. The ability to use Automation Studio and Learning Management Software (LMS) would be beneficial.
Knowledge and Skills:
The selected faculty member will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or Office 365 or similar products, database systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS), College email, Google calendar, Google drive and documents, College website, and other computer applications associated with the position.
The selected faculty member must effectively and successfully communicate his or her “industry perspective” of robotics, controls, systems development, and how it integrates with machinery and mechanics.
Physical Demands:
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position includes lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
