Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing; a current unencumbered RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina. The applicant has at least two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the United States. Must meet at least one of the following:  a.) have completed a course in teaching adult students, b.) has experience in teaching adult students, or c.) has experience in supervising nursing assistants.  *A bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree preferred.*

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements:   Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office and other equipment including computer, copier, calculator, audio-visual equipment, medical equipment, etc.  Must be physically able to exert up to fifteen pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work;  position requires walking, standing, stooping, reaching, crouching, fingering, etc. for extended periods of time.  Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately thirty pounds.  Must be able to perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of receptors in skin, particularly those of fingertips.
 
Data Conception:   Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
 
Interpersonal Communication:   Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.  Includes the giving of instructions to students and subordinates.  Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.
 
Language Ability:   Requires the ability to read a variety of documents, reports, and various books such as various manuals, PCC handbook and catalog, various texts, PCC FACT book, etc.  Requires the ability to prepare various documents and reports such as lesson plans, grade/evaluation reports, attendance report, end-of quarter reports, long-range plans, etc., using the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar.  Requires the ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, subordinates, other PCC personnel, etc. with poise, voice control, and confidence.  Requires the ability to be conversant in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, voice and diction, phonetics, and discussion and debate.
 
Intelligence:   Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.  Must be able to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Requires the ability to apply rational systems such as education (teaching), nursing assisting, etc., in order to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
 
Verbal Aptitude:   Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions.  Must be able to instruct others via effective verbal communication.
 
Numerical Aptitude:   Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers; determine percentages; utilize decimals; determine time and weight; and apply algebraic principles.
 
Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
 
Motor Coordination:   Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in utilizing automated office, audio-visual, and medical equipment.
 
Manual Dexterity:   Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc.  Must have high levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
 
Color Discrimination:   Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
 
Interpersonal Temperament:   Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions.   Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.
 
Physical Communication:  Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)

Under limited supervision, instructs students in various nursing assisting classes and performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties.  Interacts with and assists students in various other areas. Reports to the Instructor/Coordinator Nurse Aide under the direction of the Director, Healthcare Programs.

Under limited supervision, the Full Time Nursing Assistant Instructor prepares lectures, tests, syllabi, and teaches in the classroom and lab and conducts Clinical rotations. Will be required to teach Nursing Assistant I, Nursing Assistant II, Nursing Assistant I Refresher, NA II Competency or Medication Aide classes as necessary. This position requires flexibility of hours as it will be required, that this position teach either day, evening or weekend classes as needed per student demand. This demand may change semester to semester, and hours of this position will be adjusted as needed on an ongoing basis. 
 
The duties will also include maintaining office hours to meet with students outside of class time to interact and assist students in various areas. Office hour's duties will also include assisting the Director of Health Care Programs and/or the Nurse Aide Coordinator as necessary with the coordination of any health care courses. Will assist the Director of HealthCare Programs and/or the Nursing Assistant Coordinator with orientation of new part-time health care instructors.
 
Will perform related administrative and record keeping duties per the guidelines set forth by our governing agencies, the Division of Health Service Regulation and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.  Will report to the Instructor/Coordinator Nurse Aide in the Continuing Education and Community Development Division.
 
Remains active in professional organizations and activities.  Keeps abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to the teaching of nursing assisting courses by reading professional journals and attending seminars, conferences, meetings, etc.
 
Maintain own Healthcare Provider-CPR status, immunization records and RN status up to date at all times.
 
Maintains good working relationships and communicates information within the Department and with all departments/divisions on campus.  Responds to phone calls, providing information and answering inquiries as appropriate.
 
Receives, reviews, processes, files and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as attendance report, grade sheets, evaluation forms, professional development forms, medical forms, checklists, purchase orders,  memos, general letters of correspondence, and various other forms for the Nursing assisting program.
 
Operates, utilizes, and maintains various types of equipment and supplies including computer, calculator, copier, audio-visual equipment, medical equipment and supplies, general office supplies, general teaching supplies, etc.
 
Assists with preparing departmental objectives.  Serves on various College committees and organizations and attends meetings as required.  Performs other duties as required.
