Job Location

This is a full-time, 12-month position housed at the Wilkes Campus (Herring Hall), with the possibility of occasional assignments at the Ashe Campus or Alleghany Center. This position may require weekend and evening hours.

Salary/Grade

Estimated Hiring Range: $50,000 to $60,000 based on education and experience in accordance with the college salary plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) with an unencumbered license and licensed to practice in North Carolina.
  • At least two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the United States.
  • Meet at least one of the following:
     
    • completion of a course in teaching adults; or
    • experience in teaching adults; or
    • experience in supervising nurse aides.
  • Current knowledge of NC DHSR regulations
  • Commitment to professional development and an understanding of and commitment to the purpose of a comprehensive community college.
  • Current AHA BLS CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Classroom teaching experience preferred.

Position Description

The instructor’s primary responsibility is to maintain excellence in instructing students in the curriculum subject with the express goal of attaining certain student learning outcomes. In addition to the primary responsibility, the instructor will be required to complete various classroom administrative duties as well as duties helpful to satisfy the goals and objectives of Wilkes Community College (WCC) including committee service and professional development.

This is a full-time, 12-month position housed at the Wilkes Campus (Herring Hall), with the possibility of occasional assignments at the Ashe Campus or Alleghany Center. This position may require weekend and evening hours.

DutiesResponsibilities, and Expectations:

  1. Develop and teach courses in the WDCE Health Occupations programs; including but not limited to: Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, Refresher Courses, Medication Aide, HealthCare Career Readiness, and CPR.
  2. Facilitate a scheduled theory class while ensuring students meet the required class/lab/clinical hours.
  3. Assess student learning outcomes including but not limited to practical demonstration and evaluation of skills.
  4. Prepare and maintain documentation, including student records. Manage student records, including immunizations, grades/evaluations, and attendance.
  5. Maintain a secure testing environment.
  6. Maintain supply and equipment inventory (based on the required equipment list).
  7. Maintain contact with clinical site onboarding contacts. Schedule clinical rotation assignments and submit student onboarding paperwork to sites.
  8. Maintain current teaching materials (within 5 years).
  9. Provide guidance or support to part-time instructors.
  10. Assist coordinator with State testing scheduling, mock testing, and maintaining state testing supplies.
  11. Assist coordinator in scheduling guest speakers.
  12. Ensure all procedures are completed safely. Keep a clean working environment (classroom/lab).
  13. Model student expectations including effective communication, dependability, critical thinking, positive customer service, and leadership.
  14. Assist the Nurse Aide Coordinator with maintaining equipment/supplies, schedules, and curriculum development.
  15. Enforce and instruct safety, infection prevention, and NC DHSR policies (Division of Health Service Regulation).
  16. Support the college’s commitment to enhance student learning by increasing student disposition to use critical thinking skills via professional development activities.
  17. Attend professional development activities as scheduled by the coordinator and as required by WCC.
  18. Attend Regional Nurse Aide meetings.
  19. Serve on college committees as assigned.
  20. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
