Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Science degree in Textiles (or related field which may include Fashion Design or Fashion Merchandising) from a regionally accredited institution required
  • Must meet minimum SACSCOC criteria and the minimum criteria of other pertinent accrediting, licensing, and credentialing agencies in the area of teaching.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ability to incorporate technology and interactive strategies in teaching is required.
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to collaborate well with others required.
  • Must be willing to teach day, evening, and/or weekend classes and labs.  
  • Must be willing to teach through multiple modes at multiple instruction sites, including high school sites. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Generally, works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending required
  • Exposure to typical elements associated with textile technologies and related labs.
  • Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
  • In addition to regular office hours, position sometimes requires overtime and/or evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of work experience in textile industry preferred (ex: Product design, yarn production, fabric manufacturing, polymer/fiber science, textile education, fashion merchandising)
  • Community college teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum development preferred.

Position Description

SUMMARY

OPEN UNTIL FILLED  
A full-time faculty member is a College employee whose primary assignment involves teaching or the direct support of teaching.  The position of full-time faculty member is a demanding one that involves delivery of instruction, preparation and evaluation of such instruction, accessibility to students, committee assignments, and service to College and community.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct assigned classes of instruction in the best manner to achieve student learning; present information, ideas, and skills in ways which are appropriate to a variety of learning styles and which show sensitivity to a diverse student population.
  1. Provide students with the approved course syllabus and relate instruction and evaluation to that syllabus.
  1. Treat students with tact and respect; maintain collegial relationships; and work productively as a member of a team.
  1. Evaluate achievement with timely interim and final performance evaluations and assign grades which reflect College policy and the achievement of course objectives as stated in the syllabus.
  1. Provide academic advising, maintain regular office hours, and maintain overall accessibility to students, which necessitates flexibility in arranging out-of-class consultations to accommodate student needs.
  1. Maintain instructional quality and effectiveness through constant and timely revisions of programs and course syllabi within assigned content area.
  1. Maintain class records and submit required reports in a timely manner.
  1. Develop new courses and select and recommend appropriate instructional materials, modalities, and textbooks.
  1. Serve on College committees.
  1. Attend and otherwise participate in scheduled department, division, and College meetings and participate in graduation.
  1. Maintain currency in content areas through appropriate professional development.
  1. Participate in activities that enhance the College’s service to students and to the community.
  1. Serve as instructor for related continuing education customized training courses for textile industry professionals.
