Appropriate credential(s) specific to the concentrations offered (Abdomen, OB/GYN, Pediatric, and/or Principles and Instrumentation)
Two years of full-time professional experience as a general sonographer, cardiac sonographer, pediatric cardiac sonographer and/or vascular technologist.
Must be credentialed in Sonography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree
Experience in course coordination or as a lead instructor at the community college level
Supervisory and leadership experience in an academic setting
Experience supervising clinical practicums/externships/ internship and/or program development
Three years full-time teaching experience as a lead instructor with course coordination experience in the area of medical sonography and/or community college teaching experience
Position Description
This position is responsible for the providing effective instruction for the Medical Sonography curriculum and for planning and coordination of student clinical experiences.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions):To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.
*Serves as liaison for the Imaging Department Head, Sonography Program Director and the sonography faculty, with affiliating clinical agencies; maintaining ongoing communications with each affiliating agency to discuss, arrange, and improve clinical rotations/experiences
*Teaches clinical and/or didactic courses in accordance with published course descriptions and as listed in the schedule of courses
*Coordinates clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the program director.
*Conducts weekly clinical site visits to evaluate students; evaluates and ensures the effectiveness of the clinical affiliate/clinical education centers
*Communicates with the Medical Sonography Program Director regarding clinical needs and placements
*Selects learning experiences that facilitate the student attainment of course student learning outcomes
*Requests clinical sites/observation experiences from clinical agencies and makes weekly clinical site visits to assure adequacy of clinical instruction and of the clinical experience.
*Evaluates students to ensure adequate clinical experience
*Schedules students for clinical rotations with affiliating clinical agencies to ensure effective learning experiences.
*Participates in overall program evaluation to maintain compliance with the standards established by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in Medical Sonography
*Compiles and analyzes enrollment data in preparation for clinical site request to project need for part time faculty and to assess completion rates
*Performs course documentation duties for those courses assigned Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner.
*Maintains accurate scholastic records of students enrolled in classes and submits required reports to the Department Head and to the registrar
*Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
Attends the clinical agency planning meetings and participates in maintaining current clinical affiliation agreement and the development of new clinical affiliation agreements to meet the needs of the program
Collaborates with the Sonography Program Director, Faculty, and Imaging Department Head to adequately budget for equipment, supply, and professional development needs for the radiography department.
Correlates clinical education with didactic education
Reviews and recommends additions to library holdings, textbooks and audio-visual or other teaching aids
Supports the program director to help assure effective program operation.
Participates in the Medical Sonography Program assessment process
Cooperates with the program director in periodic review and revision of clinical course materials
Organizes and maintains laboratory and clinical areas, including physical facilities, equipment and materials in a clean, neat, operating condition, when applicable
Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development
Participates in continuing professional education and community activities related to Sonography
Maintains current knowledge of program policies, procedures, and student progress.
Actively participates in faculty committees and departmental meetings; assisting with planning and serving in leadership
Provides regular and timely feedback to students regarding academic progress
Maintains regular office hours
Assists with tracking of completion or reentry of students for the radiography program.
Completes orientation of students entering the Medical Sonography program
Promotes continuous improvement by completing an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or a group basis.
