Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Drama, Theatre, Musical Theatre or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Credentials to meet accreditation criteria for teaching assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Arts or Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Musical Theater or Theatre from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two years of teaching experience.
  • Training in Musical Theatre.

The role of the Full-time Instructor/Director, Drama is to provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise and to promote various student-centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life-long learning. Various teaching strategies, learning styles and delivery methods including new technology systems will be utilized to reach this goal.

The Full-time Instructor/Director, Drama receives supervision from the Department Chair, Humanities and Fine Arts.
 

 

Examples of Duties

 

  • Implement new teaching strategies, as appropriate.
  • Evaluate textbooks for relevancy, quality and currency, making recommendations as necessary per established policy.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' attendance and performance.
  • Submit reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Participate in development of curriculum course schedule.
  • Participate in planning to identify needed courses (current and future).
  • Adhere to assigned teaching load/hours.
  • Make recommendations for assigned courses based on evaluation criteria/process.
  • Make recommendations for new courses per constraints of common course library and/or N.C. Community College System (NCCCS) guidelines.
  • Integrate new technology in instructional delivery methods.
  • Participate in development, implementation and evaluation of goals and objectives and activities and operations of the instructional area of the College.
  • Participate in annual review of instructional program.
  • Provide information/data for the annual department budget based on stated goals.
  • Adhere to/enforce policies and procedures related to academic area.
  • Integrate teaching methods that are student oriented/student focused.
  • Submit requests for academic labs orders, maintain and request repairs/replacement for lab equipment/supplies.
  • Maintain a hazard-free environment and practices safety in lab(s) or classroom.
  • Provide guidance and advice to assigned student advisees.
  • Register advisees.
  • Maintain weekly office hours per college guidelines or as designated by off-campus assigned location.
  • Attend advisement workshops and remains current in new technologies regarding registration.
  • Keep students advised of their progress in class.
  • Write letters of recommendations for students on request, as appropriate.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities.
  • Incorporate retention strategies to encourage students to stay in programs.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in academic field.
  • Participate in professional development, as appropriate, as related to instructional area; new teaching methods; new technology; and professional organizations - locally, statewide and nationally. 
  • Request funding necessary to participate in professional development activities.
  • Assist with faculty recruitment, orientation and mentoring.
  • Direct and coordinate two College of The Albemarle Student Theatre (COAST) productions each year (one play in the fall and musical in the spring or two musicals per year).
  • Cast stage performances based on talent and show integrity, giving preference to students when feasible.
  • Participate in activities that enhance the College's mission.
  • Participate in the College's Institutional Effectiveness Plan.
  • Participate in Faculty Senate.
  • Serve on College standing and ad hoc committees, as requested.
  • Attend all convocations, graduations and other College meetings, as scheduled.
  • Serve as advisor to student clubs or organizations, as appropriate.
  • Participate in administrative activities related to student admissions, progression and graduation, as requested.
  • Adhere to College's policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
