Bachelor degree in Accounting or related discipline

Five years of auditing experience

Preferred Qualifications

Currently certified as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)

Two years of fraud investigation experience

Auditing experience working within a college, university, non-profit, government employer

Position Description

Job Summary

This position is to perform financial, operational, and compliance audits and/or consulting services; will be responsible for reviewing internal controls over business operations, evaluating internal controls, and developing findings and recommendations for improvement; and to assist in the analysis and appraisal of College financial and operational policies and procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions):

*Conducts risk assessments, preliminary surveys, and/or other evaluation tools to assess risk within the assigned audit area

*Develops and prepares audit programs by performing a review of the audit area's internal control system to determine the extent of substantive testing; identifying attributes to test, periods to test, determining sample sizes; conducting test; and interpreting results

*Obtains, analyzes, and appraises evidentiary data as a base for an informed, objective opinion on the adequacy and effectiveness of the system and the performance of the activities being audited

*Develops working papers documenting internal audit work conducted, audit findings and recommendations

*Compiles work papers in accordance with audit standards and guidelines; prepare clear, concise and conclusive reports report that clearly outline the findings and support the audit evidence obtained

*Prepares oral and written presentations of audit examinations, identifying deficiencies and making recommendations for corrective action to improve operations and reduce cost

*Prepares formal and informal written reports, expressing opinions on the adequacy and effectiveness and of the system and the efficiency with which activities are carried out

Identifies and interviews personnel responsible for key tasks within a given system or process

Identifies key control points of the system being reviewed

Assists in appraising the adequacy of corrective action taken to improve deficient conditions

Conducts follow-up audits reviewing the status of prior audit findings

Plans, schedules, and participates in multiple projects; evaluates project effectiveness and expresses recommendations to Audit Manager

Performs special reviews or consulting services at the request of the Audit Manager

Completes an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or a group basis

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all college division and senior management

Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office products

Ability to work independently, performing duties with minimal supervision

Demonstrated ability in compiling and reviewing documentation
   
Ability to perform complete audit of records utilizing technical knowledge, sound judgment, and professional ethics

Ability to work confidentially with discretion

Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data

Excellent organizational  and time management skills with the flexibility to manage multiple tasks and rapidly changing priorities

Ability to travel within Wake County to multiple campus locations
