The IT Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, inventory, and security of technical resources, which includes file servers, workstations (desktop and laptop computers), peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.), presentation systems, and application software installed in classrooms, laboratories, offices, and work areas. Work assignments are usually received from the Help Desk. This position is also the media support main point of contact for internal and external clients.

29 hours per week position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs, configures and maintains workstations and peripheral devices in accordance with established standards and procedures
  • Performs the installation, upgrade and maintenance of software applications and suites ensuring compliance with license agreements and copyright legislation
  • Provide user support for installed workstations, peripheral devices and standard software applications; diagnoses and resolves issues reported to the Help Desk by users
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs technology and media equipment in accordance with established standards and procedures
  • Enters time records and updates document requests and inventory locations in the help desk system
  • Works with internal users and outside agencies to provide technology support for the auditorium and meeting facilities on campus to include training personnel on use of equipment; serves as the main point of contact for auditorium technology needs for internal and external users
  • Maintains accurate records and well organized files to comply with audit information needs; assists in maintaining an accurate record of all hardware and software
  • Cleans, organizes and maintains computer systems facilities and related storage areas
  • Keeps abreast of new developments to remain current in the field and advises supervisor of related computer technologies and audio/visual media support issues
  • Cross trains on any duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current systems and network technologies and standards and their practical application in the academic environment
  • Hardware: workstations, peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.)
  • Software: server operating systems, workstation operating systems, utility and instructional applications and suites
  • Aspects of an operating theater facility include sound and lighting
  • Safety practices as applicable to work performed

 
Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Chrome operating systems
  • Proficiency with file servers, workstations, peripheral devices and common software applications and suites
  • Time management and organizational skills to complete jobs within deadlines
  • Determining the kind of tools and equipment need to do a job
