Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution
  • Possess a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina 
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) calendar years of prior full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time clinical nursing practice experience as a Registered Nurse 
  • Must have a minimum of two years teaching experience in an approved nursing program; community college experience preferred.
  • Preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education.
  • Must be able to complete the educational requirements of the Board of Nursing within three (3) years of hire
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)® within 2 years of employment
  • Able to meet clinical agency requirements including CPR certifications, proof of immunizations, and criminal background check
  • Skilled in the use of office and classroom/lab technologies 
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

This position is responsible for supervising and assisting nursing students with lab and clinical student learning outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  

  • Evaluates student performance and assists nursing students with practicing procedures, and communicates outcomes to students and faculty
  • Designs, develops, and updates clinical simulation activities
  • Monitors and maintains confidential student records including the tracking of student hours, student performance and completion of lab activities
  • Maintains clean, organized lab environment
  • Maintains a current schedule of all nursing labs to include planned clinical lab activities, supervised practice and remediation
  • Assists faculty in providing laboratory and simulation experience
  • Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of new and existing human patient simulator scenarios
  • Performs simulation demonstrations for classes and visitors
  • Assists in ordering lab supplies and equipment
  • Remains current in the areas of best practice techniques or evidenced-based practice in nursing care
  • Assists faculty with updating procedure guidelines as needed
  • Plans and schedules remediation activities within one week of notification
  • Maintains and remains current and able to operate all equipment in lab
  • Provide collaborative coordination for the nursing programs to include clinical rotations, lecture, and labs.
  • Assist Director of Nursing in scheduling of lab and simulation.
  • Provide instruction in the nursing programs per college policy.
  • Foster a collegial relationship among colleagues and partners
  • Maintain complete office records, as needed; process reports, forms,  clinical schedules and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy and correctness of all data
  • Ensure that the program and curriculum offerings are in full compliance with the requirements for NCBON approval, accreditation, certification, and other standards stipulated by appropriate external agencies
  • Participate on the Nursing  Advisory Committee
  • Manage the instructional processes through collaborative planning
  • Participate in committee assignments
  • Participates in student recruitment activities, academic advising and counseling of students
  • Participates in selection of textbooks and other educational resources
  • Maintains professional competence and licensure through continuing education, professional activities and/or practice, including compliance with the professional development requirements of NCBON 21 NCAC 3.0318(e)(3).

  • Ability to use Microsoft office, Office 365, Moodle and Outlook
  • Experience with outcome and program assessment
