Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with mechanical processes and/or manufacturing with a lean toward design and/or drafting.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • CAD Software – SolidWorks, Inventor, and/or AutoCAD
  • Mechanical design processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience with Blackboard.

Position Description

The Lead Instructor, Mechanical Engineering Technology position will be based at the Lee Main Campus in Sanford and may also include courses offered in Chatham, Harnett, and/or Lee County locations in the future as well as online. 

The purpose of an instructor at the Central Carolina Community College is to ensure maximum student learning. The instructor accomplishes this by presenting discipline specific learning outcomes through lecture, lab, demonstration, projects, assignments, appropriate classroom management, and by providing authentic student assessment that documents learning has occurred. The Lead Instructor will assist in further hiring adjunct faculty, as needed, and ensure continuous evaluation and revision of course objectives, course outlines, course competencies, course descriptions, teaching strategies, in the specific curriculum to ascertain that they are appropriate and relevant.

Salary depends on education and experience.
Associate Degree salary range: $38,103-$48,303
Bachelor's Degree salary range: $40,371-$50,571

 

 

 Essential Duties:

  • Serve as the discipline leader for all Mechanical Engineering Technology programs and courses offered by the college.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver new programs that meet engineering technology industry needs across all areas of instruction.
  • Teach the equivalent of 15-20 contact hours per semester, across curriculum, continuing education, and industry training courses.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners in the local and regional mechanical engineering technology field.
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute for all scheduled courses current course outlines and syllabi that support accreditation standards as described in the current faculty handbook.
  • Prepare for and meet classes as assigned, promptly evaluate student progress within one week and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Demonstrate concern for student retention by employing best practice strategies.
  • Serve as academic adviser for an assigned caseload of students.
  • Recruit for department/curriculum as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Lead the annual program Compliance Assist Assessment.
  • Maintain department/curriculum equipment, supplies, and materials, and library and support resources.
  • Assist in registration and orientation as requested by the supervisor.
  • Participate in scheduled and called departmental, faculty, staff meetings and other College activities.
  • Keep supervisor informed of matters pertaining to the curriculum.
  • Follow policies stated in the policies and procedures manual as it relates to instructor responsibilities.
  • Obtain Blackboard Level II training as well as maintain a Bb course site for each curriculum course taught during the semester.
  • Work the required 35 hours per week and post and hold the required five (5) office hours per week.
  • Serve on College committees as assigned.
  • Plan and participate in articulation activities with public schools and other community agencies.
  • Complete the annual five-hour staff development.
  • Submit records and forms in a timely fashion as required in the policy and procedures manual.
  • Encourage and support College activities, policies, procedures, and philosophies.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations.
  • Assume other duties as requested by the supervisor and the College.
