Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in General Chemistry or General Biology from a regionally accredited institution
  • Able to work with a variety of students from high school through adulthood
  • Must be creative, flexible, and possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and the use of a variety of office equipment to include fax machine, photocopier, scanner, and telephone systems

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:   

THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION WITH NO BENEFITS WITH AVG 10 -15 HRS PER WEEK           

 

Professional General Chemistry / General Biology Tutor provide instructional and academic support to students who are enrolled in a variety of courses and have requested assistance. This position facilitates student learning by helping to clarify specific course content and promoting/modeling the use of appropriate study strategies. This is accomplished through content area and study skills sessions and referrals to other support services on campus.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provides accurate record keeping of student related tutoring within The Learning Center as required for data collection and reports
  • Schedules coaching/ tutoring appointments with students
  • Communicates TLC information to visitors
  • Provides a positive student-centered, service-oriented, and professional atmosphere
  • Assists in the development of more responsible and independent learners
  • Creates and provide resources students can refer to as they learn and grow
  • Differentiate tutoring to meet learners where they are to help them catch up, keep up, and continue to excel
  • Assists students with strengthening studying and success skills
  • Partner with faculty in the subject area(s) of expertise to introduce students to TLC services, resources, and policies
  • Stay abreast of best practices in the subject area(s) of expertise and the world of academic coaching/ tutoring
  • Assists in planning, marketing, and implementing programs and events related to TLC and BCC
  • Other duties as assigned
