OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Librarian assists students, faculty, staff and community users with finding and evaluating source materials as well as determining what type of materials they need. This position assists students in researching topics related to their coursework and teaches students how to access information. The Librarian also teaches users how to access and search electronic libraries and performs routine circulation and cataloging duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists at the circulation desk, including aiding library users in locating library materials, reference services and other required services
  • Provides support to students in analyzing and understanding assignments and projects
  • Conducts library orientation tours to familiarize patrons with library services and facilities
  • Teaches classes about information resources and helps users evaluate search results
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop, recommend and facilitate new, innovative library instruction and services to include Virtual Reality, online support, 3D Printing, and coding
  • Assists in collection development management by reviewing, evaluating and recommending new materials as well as evaluating and weeding materials for disposal
  • Catalogs library materials in all formats to assure maximum accessibility and usefulness
  • Participates in the creation and updating of library policies and procedures; communicates and interprets library policy as delegated by the Director
  • Maintains records and statistics and submits reports as required
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university.

Preferred:
Academic library experience.

Two (2) years full-time professional experience in a library setting.

  • Principles and practice of program development and administration
  • Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs
  • Principles of media, library science and theory
  • Current library-related technologies
  • Public relations and customer service practices
  • Information literacy techniques

 
Skills

  • Proficient in database searching, Internet searching, library-related software and Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficiency in monitoring and assessing the performance of self and programs to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Works effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus
