Essential Functions

In general, the work of the Librarian, Northern Durham Center includes performing reference, instruction, circulation, and technical functions for the branch library as a solo librarian. The Librarian, Northern Durham Center, is responsible for all library services at the Northern Durham Center library, which offers Human and Public Safety programs including Basic Law Enforcement Training, Criminal Justice Technology, Emergency Management, Fire Protection Technology, Biotechnology, and more. The work schedule will include three days per week at Northern Durham Center and two days per week at the Main Campus Library or off-campus sites. The Librarian will serve as the primary liaison to off-campus sites, including the American Tobacco Campus, Duke Street North, and The Chesterfield.

Job Duties

1. Answer reference questions and provide research assistance for students, faculty, staff, and public patrons in person, online, and by telephone.
2. Instruct students, faculty, and staff on library usage, including library orientations for classes.
3. Assist students in using computers, printers, copier, and scanner.
4. Assist students in using college website and campus technologies, including but not limited to Sakai, Self-Service, and Connectmail.
5. Assist with site specific and library-wide collection development and regular assessment and weeding of the collection.
6. Assist program directors and faculty with selecting materials to support their classes, programs, and subject areas.
7. Catalog and process materials for the collection.
8. Create research guides, handouts, and blog posts.
9. Process interlibrary loan requests.
10. Charge and discharge materials.
11. Create displays to showcase library materials and campus events.
12. Support distance education library services.
13. Maintain security in the library by being present or providing coverage during open hours and locking area at closing.
14. Serve on college councils and committees as assigned.
15. Administer placement tests at Northern Durham Center as needed.
16. Assume other duties as assigned by the Library Director, the appropriate Division Head, and/or the President.
