• Master’s degree in library science or library and information studies, or an equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA), or American Association of School Librarians (AASL) accredited college or university.
• Two years of research librarian experience.

Position Description

Job Summary:
The Librarian, reporting to the Director of Library and Curriculum Support Services, will provide reference and instructional services, promote the library collections and services to campus constituencies, maintain online research tutorials and guides, and serve as liaison with academic departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepares and teaches library research instruction classes; leads library orientations, tours, and presentations.
• Instructs and assists patrons in locating, evaluating, and accessing print, media, and electronic resources.
• Provides research and reference assistance through individual and group consultation appointments.
• Answers general reference questions; and assists patrons in use of reference materials and electronic resources.
• Serves as liaison with academic departments in relation to student research opportunities and collection maintenance and development.
• Designs and maintains online research tutorials, guides, and library website.
• Recommends improvements in library services and in the library collection.
• Catalogs, withdraws, and maintains library materials and records in all platforms using the most authoritative and technologically sound methods and practices according to collection development guidelines.
• Acts as Interlibrary Loan contact with other institutions.
• Advocates for the library by building and nurturing relationships within our community and the North Carolina Community College System.
• Develops, implements, and promotes library and curriculum support services programming, events, and displays.
• Identifies information needs by collecting and analyzing data and research.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patron records.
• Supports the College’s mission, vision, and core values by adhering to all policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Related Responsibilities:
• Executes basic troubleshooting of equipment (computers, printers, etc.) and software located in the library.
• Helps at the circulation desk as needed.
• Educates and develops work-study students and other personnel as needed.
• Exercises stewardship of college facilities and materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Makes sound decisions using good judgment, answering questions, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, working with numbers, and maintaining confidentiality where appropriate.
• Possesses a working knowledge of computer-based library systems, Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and electronic databases.

Surroundings/Environment:
Work is generally done in an office or learning environment, usually indoors, away from the elements, with moderate noise. Typically working closely with others and periodically working online or irregular hours. The employee must preserve the working environment by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee should have the physical ability to complete the job’s assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying (up to 25 pounds), general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Scheduling:
This position is a part-time position, with flexible scheduling based on the needs of the library. Must be available to work occasionally on weekends and evenings, during special events and/or scheduled classes, outside of regular library hours.

Travel:
Local travel may be required, including between campus locations. Out-of-state travel is limited but may be necessary for special training/conferences.
