Library Assistant
SALARY:$26,000.00 - $31,000.00 Annually

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Library Assistant is responsible for a variety of technical and administrative duties in the daily operation of the Library. This position performs duties at the library’s information desk including circulation, basic information services and printing and provides technical assistance to users of the library’s computers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email
- Performs opening and closing duties for the department; sorts and distributes incoming mail; receipts money
- Performs duties at the circulation desk including registering users, explaining library policies and procedures, charging/discharging materials, and maintaining reservation calendars
- Maintains accurate records of overdue materials and flags delinquent user records in the College’s records management system; corresponds with patrons to resolve issues
- Assesses and collects fines and lost or damaged book fees and maintains library fees records
- Processes interlibrary loan requests and maintains accurate records of such loans; notifies users when interlibrary materials are available for checkout; corresponds and resolves issues with other libraries when materials are not returned
- Assists in the cataloging, weeding and upkeep of library materials and equipment
- Assists users in selecting and locating physical resources and the use of electronic resources
- Processes periodicals and replaces outdated issues with current issues
- Creates and regularly rotates displays and signage to promote the use of library materials
- Collects and maintains library statistics
- Maintains supply inventory and performs requisition requests to order supplies and other library materials
- Troubleshoots computer, library equipment and electronic resource issues; communicates issues to the appropriate department as needed
- Conducts library orientation tours (in person and virtual) to familiarize patrons with library services and facilities
- Assists in promoting library services and information literacy through social media, library newsletter and website
- Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
