Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in Library and Information Technology (LIT) and 1-year library experience or associate degree in a related field and 2-years library experience required.
Demonstrated competencies using technology, including but not limited to library computers equipment (laptops, cameras and projectors, etc.), library related software, and the office applications including Excel. Strong customer service skills. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Preferred Qualifications
Community college library experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification System, preferred. Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
Position Description
Performs a wide range of technical library, multimedia, duties related to provision of service in a computer-based information library and open access computer laboratory setting; supports instruction as assigned; and values and promotes the mission and vision of the college. Provide quality customer service by assuring department operation standards are met. Responsible for providing switchboard, basic reference and circulation services, assist with copy and fax services, performing clerical and organizing documenting materials of information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs switchboard operations and answers the phone in a timely manner and directs calls to proper party.
Provide services associated with an automated circulation system which includes checking in/out materials issuing library cards, and requesting payment of overdue fines and collecting for lost or damaged materials.
Provide ready reference service in person, web based and via the campus information line.
Assist in bibliographic instruction for individuals, groups and classes in the use of information sources (print & digital) including the Internet and NC LIVE.
Assist library patrons in accessing and locating information through the public access catalog and computer databases, including the internet.
Make ID cards and register new patrons, including students, employees, and community patrons in the Library’s automated system; maintain Library patron database by editing and updating records.
Issue parking permits and input parking permit data into “Colleague” via XVDM and XVDT.
Assist with bookshelves maintenance by performing shelf reading, organizing materials to be shelved and shelving materials and assist with organization of periodicals collections, including shelving current and back issues.
Participate in opening and closing procedures on a rotational basis.
Attend professional development activities; serve on college committees.
Contribute to library marketing efforts.
Assist in proctoring students.
Maintain and distribute faculty/staff directory.
Assist in the processing of new acquisitions to be added to the collection.
Availability to work evenings and weekends.
