Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in business administration, library science, computer science, accounting, or related field.
  • Computer skills required, including Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, and Word), budget, and database management.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some experience in the library field is preferred.

Position Description

The Library Assistant is a full-time, 12-month position that reports to the Director of Pardue Library. The Library Assistant is responsible for library purchasing, maintaining the serials collection, distributing mail, processing new materials, and other administrative duties. This position also fills a customer service role by staffing the circulation desk providing WCC faculty, staff, and students with excellent customer service, including locating and checking out materials.

Duties include:

  1. Maintain records and reports including budget/expenditures, purchase orders, and library invoices.
  2. Manage purchasing of supplies, equipment, books, and other media, including acquisition, receiving, processing, and inventory.
  3. Collaborate with library cataloger to process new items, including labeling, book jackets, and applying library identification.
  4. Manage serials, including newspapers, magazines, and journals. Including serials acquisition, accessibility, and de-selection.
  5. Conduct administrative duties, including correspondence, filing, and processing mail, ordering supplies, and processing travel for the Learning Commons (Pardue Library and Academic Support Center) and area dean.
  6. Provide assistance at the circulation desk, including reference service and making IDs.
  7. Manage Career and College Promise (CCP) textbook lending.
  8. Maintain library collections, striving to provide well organized, accessible, and available collections by assisting with the inventory process and shelving materials.
  9. Assist librarian(s) with resources and materials for library instruction.
  10. Advocate for the library in the college community by building relationships with students (and potential students), faculty, staff, and throughout the NC Community College System.
  11. Demonstrate continuing professional development by staying current with library and information services and technology.
  12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
