Position Description
Library clerks perform routine clerical and semi-professional library work, assisting in all phases of library activities, especially circulation desk duties, shelving, assisting members in locating resources, marketing, and presenting programs in a team atmosphere.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Learn to use and troubleshoot library software and resources, including Symphony, Workflows, MS Office Suite, Google Apps, PACs, Electronic databases, Internet.
Performs circulation desk duties, including greeting patrons, checking in and out library materials, registering new patrons, collecting fines and shelving books.
Answers telephones, transfers calls and provides information to callers
Make ID cards and register new patrons, including students, employees, and community patrons in the Library’s automated system; maintain Library patron database by editing and updating records.
Issue parking permits and input parking permit data into “Colleague” via XVDM and XVDT.
Provides reader’s advisory, reference and other patron assistance service
Assists patrons with computer use and troubleshoots basic computer and office equipment problems.
Assists with processing and repair of library materials.
Participates in staff meetings to discuss and resolve problems, contribute ideas for improvement and keep updated on library plans and activities.
Assists with opening and closing duties.
Attends continuing education classes and/or webinars that are relevant for position.
Establishes and maintains positive working relations with coworkers, citizens, the public, and other agency staff.
Work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts.
