Education           

Required:

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program at an accredited institution of higher education

1-3 years experience as a librarian

 

Knowledge and Skills    

Required:

• Demonstrated management, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

• Demonstrated experience in planning and/or managing a budget

• Excellent Customer Service Skills

• Demonstrated experience in assisting library patrons in the use of traditional as well as electronic library resources.

• Demonstrated proficiency using library database systems

• Strong personal and professional integrity

• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Education           

Preferred:

1-3 years experience in supervision

 

Knowledge and Skills    

Preferred:

• Demonstrated proficiency using either the Google or Microsoft Office Suite or similar products,

• Demonstrated proficiency using college email, developing and posting website information, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

The library director will implement the development and operation of the library and its services to support students and employees of the college.  The director will supervise the facilities (both on campus and virtual), operations, services and staff.  The director will guide collection development through interaction and input from the college faculty and staff.

Program Administrator, Full-Time, Exempt

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Establish and document library procedures, services and resources to meet college needs

2. Coordinates all activities within the Library program including operation of an efficient circulation system for library materials.

3. Catalog and classify books, audiovisual materials, periodicals, and other library materials and maintain an accurate up-to-date online catalog.

4. Select, purchase, evaluate, manage, and maintain library materials for students and employees including books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, and online databases.

5. Recommend requirements concerning budget, personnel, equipment and facilities and develop priorities.

6. Consult with appropriate deans and faculty in initiating new and improved library services.

7. Utilize College E-procurement system and bookkeeping records and administer all local, state and federal funds received by the Library.

8. Serve as college authority concerning new trends and concepts in library services and their implications for total library and instructional programs.

9. Represent Library at divisional, college and state meetings.

10. Supervise Library personnel, including performance evaluation and coaching.

11. Supervise the maintenance of the computer lab.

12. Complete annual reports of library holdings and usage for college, state, and national surveys.

13. Develop annual Planning Outcomes Document in conjunction with the Dean of Teaching and Learning Support and evaluate the results.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain technical competencies required to perform the job function

Serve on college committees as assigned.

Serve as backup at the circulation desk and in processing inter-library loans

Physical Demands          

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines. The ability to lift 40-50 lbs. is required

 

Working Conditions and Environment

• The director is expected to travel for professional development overnight 1-2 times per year

• The director is expected to work the evening shift (until 8 pm) at the library at least one night per week

 

Equipment Operation

Computer, telephone, Barcode Scanner, printer (may require some printer troubleshooting)
