Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution is required
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently with a multitude of task assignments using logical prioritizing methods
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and have the ability to adapt to other professional software applications for resource development and be able to type
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to maintain and ensure the confidential nature of the office and records of the Safety Division and Human Resources Department
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license
  • Experience as a forklift operator is preferred
  • Certification to operate a forklift would be required once hired
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures

Position Description

The Logistics and Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and maintaining records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and developing, monitoring, and implementing measures to ensure the College is compliant with health and safety regulations.

The duties of the Logistics and Safety Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the processing of incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Maintain records of items received and shipped
  • Coordinate community service workers on campus
  • Move furniture and equipment
  • Assist with event set-ups
  • Develop and recommend new procedures and approaches to campus safety
  • Conduct periodic environmental, health, and safety audits in all college facilities and review findings with administration
  • Plan and promote safety programs
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards and administrative practices as they may relate to the College
  • Assist departments with specific training needs by locating and scheduling outside training activities
  • Work with the Dean of Student Services, Director of Human Resources, and the Director of Environmental Services to determine areas for increased training with emphasis on accident prevention
  • Maintain records of the weekly security reports and all safety incidents for administration and Clery reporting
  • Maintain records of elevator service and repair calls to ensure that the College has continued service
  • Ensure that the College is adequately provided with the right amount and type of fire extinguishers required for the area in which they are placed
  • Ensure fire extinguishers are inspected on a monthly basis and serviced on an annual basis
  • Respond to all fire alarms and incidents
  • Conduct drills and/or exercises that train the faculty, staff, and students on emergency management activities (i.e. fire drills and lock downs)
  • Conduct an annual review of chemicals on campus and dispose of out-of-date and unneeded chemicals through an approved disposal service
  • Attend workshops and take courses to maintain or enhance job skills keeping up-to-date on issues/trends that may be required to maintain compliance with laws
  • Ensure that the master file of SDS(Safety Data Sheets) is maintained and on file for accessibility when needed
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment with occasional short-term exposure to heat and cold
  • Moderate physical effort requiring long periods of standing, walking, and periodic lifting of 50 pounds or more
  • Infrequently traveling between buildings on campus, to other campuses, locally, or out-of-town to attend meetings and conferences
  • Frequently listening to and talking with students, faculty, and other staff members either in person or by phone
