Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include High School diploma and HVAC or comparable vocational diploma or certificate; High School diploma and apprentice experience.
  • Completion of vocational school training and two (2) years of satisfactory experience in the electrician's trade OR four (4) years of satisfactory experience in the electrician's trade.

Position Description

Provides daily maintenance of the interior and exterior of campus buildings: makes repairs on buildings and their components, including electrical, plumbing, drywall, carpentry and automotive repairs; paints campus buildings and campus fixtures or furniture; plastering and roofing jobs; repair plumbing system and replace filters when needed; may perform locksmith duties. Reports to the Facilities Director.

The Maintenance Technician-Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures throughout the Halifax Community College campus sites. Perform a variety of tasks and heavy manual labor for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions. Maintain and repair a variety of tools and equipment. Work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches. Perform accurate mathematical calculations. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Understand and follow oral and written communication. Work independently with little direction . Meet schedules and timelines. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relation ships with those contacted in the course of work. Under direct supervision, the position requires use of judgment and skill, and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness.

  • Must be physically able to exert up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; work involves walking, standing, kneeling, climbing, stooping, etc. frequently or occasionally. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds.
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle as well as a variety of types of equipment.
  • Must be able to use ladders and work at various heights.
  • Must possess a Valid Driver 's License recognized in North Carolina.
