Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:   High School diploma or equivalency.
Knowledge & Skills:
Two to four years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two or more highly complex mechanical or building trades, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, knowledge of local, state, and national codes pertaining to assigned trades and ability to perform the trades at journey level.  Knowledge of fork lift operation and personal lift equipment operation. 
Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to use power tools and hand tools. The employee frequently is required to walk, stand, climb ladders, and crawl in small, confined spaces. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and work in elevated locations up to 50 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision and ability to focus. The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of shock and or vibration and loud noises which will require personal protective equipment at times. Some evening work may be required.
Licensing:  Valid North Carolina driver's license.

Position Description

Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Technician I position. Apply online at www.carteret.edu. Our application must be completed in its entirety. The Maintenance Technician I performs specialized, routine, and emergency repairs and maintenance of College facilities, equipment, and grounds while under the supervision and direction of the Facilities Manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participates in all operations and facilities functions as directed.
  • Assists with set-up and cleanup of College events.
  • Must be able to work closely in conjunction with the Facilities Manager, and other members of the departments and staff.
  • Possess present knowledge of blue print reading, standard concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the construction field.
  • Performs all types of preventative maintenance and repairs to facilities and equipment.
  • Responds to emergencies during off-duty hours and as needed.
  • Follow through to completion of work orders.
  • Attend departmental and college meetings.
  • Responsible for periodic reports, inspections, inventory, and time sheet.
  • Possess capable computer, communication, and writing skills
  • Performs storm preparedness.
  • Participates in clean up, snow and ice removal.
