Minimum Qualifications
must hold valid North Carolina Cosmetic Board Cosmetologist license or license in specific area of Manicuring or Esthetics for substituting in these courses
three years of cosmetology experience is preferred
classroom experience is a plus
experience with diverse populations strongly preferred
demonstrated effective and professional written and oral communication skills and organizational skills
commitment to the College's diversity and inclusion initiatives
ability to effectively use a variety of instructional media and materials
understanding of, and a commitment to community college education and the concept of a learning centered, open-admissions, college
committment to the academic success of all students
ability to relate to students, faculty and staff in a congenial and professional manner
prefer experience in Pivot Point or Milady curriculum
prefer experience in use of LMS (Blackboard, Open LMS, Moodle) and Self-serve
prefer 2 years teaching experience
Subject matter education and/or training and experience that have both the breadth and depth needed to ensure effective teaching in the appropriate subject areas per the guidelines as adopted by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and any appropriate governing agency is required.

Position Description
Substitute Curriculum Instructors have one major area of responsibility, instructional. Instructional activities require, among other things, subject matter expertise and a thorough preparation for every instructional responsibility including completion of necessary paperwork, and knowledge of necessary systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
follow appropriate course goals and objectives along with evaluation methods which accurately measure student learning
be present for the entire scheduled instructional times or work with/provide appropriate class coverage plans to the coordinator in the case of necessary absences
use provided instructional materials that comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines
Surroundings/Environment:
Standard classroom environment, usually indoors, away from elements, with moderate noise
Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the classroom, operate and position computers, as needed; and frequently communicate with students. The employee may occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
Scheduling:
Work in this position is on a day-by-day as needed basis. Availability for both day and evening coursework on any Mitchell Community College site (or arranged off-campus courses) greatly enhances your chances of increased workload.
Travel:
Local travel may be required, including between campus locations. comply with College policies and procedures
