Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or a related field
• Minimum of three years of marketing/communications experience, including professional writing and graphic and/or web design, as demonstrated by a portfolio of work
• Proficiency with WordPress
• Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively, confidentially, and tactfully with faculty, staff, administrators, and the media
• Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) to diverse external and internal stakeholders
• Strong knowledge and use of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to perform responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner as well as be reliable, resourceful, tactful, self-starting, flexible, and cooperative
• Good comfort level with public speaking and serving as the organization’s representative at public and private events
• Photography and videography experience
• Web content management experience
• Knowledge of strategic planning processes
• Social media marketing and advertising experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with brand development
• Experience creating a marketing plan (including themes, identification of target audiences, and media selection) that help advance the goals of the college

Position Description

Job Description

The Marketing and Communications Director is a full-time position located on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, this position provides day-to-day management of the college’s marketing and communications activities. The Marketing and Communications Director acts as the college’s spokesperson for print, television, and radio news media while serving as the college’s Public Information Officer. This position leads the marketing effort for all areas of the college and in support of the college’s goals and needs. The Marketing and Communications Director coordinates and collaborates with outsourced support and provides a unified and consistent message throughout the college.

Job Duties

• Maintains professionalism in appearance and communications
• Presents a favorable image of the college at all times
• Positively promotes the college through marketing and communications to support and advance programs, initiatives, and the mission of the college
• Develops/implements an effective marketing plan to enhance the community image, branding, programs, and initiatives of the college
• Works collaboratively with all college departments to gather information to develop marketing and communications strategies
• Meets on a regular basis with various departments to evaluate and modify web content as appropriate
• Monitors, maintains, and continually improves the college website and social media communications in support of the college’s marketing goals
• Develops and leads teams to assist in achieving the college’s marketing goals
• Acts as the college’s spokesperson for print, television, and radio news media and serves as the college’s PIO
• Develops articles and press releases for multiple college publications and media outlets
• Coordinates and collaborates with outsourced resources to manage marketing and communications goals and objectives to include graphic design, banner advertising, digital signage, billboard advertising and all other internal and external communications
• Oversees and provides direction regarding the marketing annual budget
• Responds to media requests for information and develops positive and productive relationships with media contacts
• Leads a team of trained volunteers to use digital cameras, videography, and other related marketing technology for use at college events
• Protects the college’s graphic standards, including the use of the college logo
• Proactive in maintaining positive, effective, cooperative, and professional relationships with team members internally and externally
• Assists leadership with presentation development and accompanying materials
• Takes advantage of professional development opportunities to stay current with web and social media trends and best practices
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Institutional Advancement
