Minimum Qualifications

 

Associate degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or closely related field; supplemented by three years previous experience and/or training that includes advertising/graphic design, marketing, marketing research, and marketing analysis, preferably within a community college environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements:  Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a computer, telephone, basic office equipment, vehicle, etc. Must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting much of the time, but involves walking and standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, etc. for periods of time. Must be able to lift and /or carry weights of up to 20 pounds.

 

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

 

Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisor.

 

Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, regulations, reports, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, advertisement, correspondence, etc. with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.

 

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to make independent judgments in absence or supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information and to understand and implement basic office machinery functions.

 

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently.

 

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals and to determine time.

 

Forms/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

 

Motor Coordinator: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery; and to drive motor vehicles.

 

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

 

Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity:  Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.

 

Interpersonal Temperament:  Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or dangerous situations.

 

Physical Communications:  Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Position Description

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

 

Designs billboards, flyers, posters, postcards, invitations, announcements, and e-newsletters to advertise specific programs and services related to but not restricted to the Continuing Education programs of Pitt Community College.

 

Collaborates with Academic Affairs personnel on promoting and marketing Continuing Education programming.

Also works with Distance Learning Office to market online professional development opportunities.

 

Takes photographs and assists with creative direction for the setup of other college photography on occasion.

 

Schedules and coordinates students, graduates, and employees for video and photography sessions.

 

Designs advertisements for use in newspapers, magazines, and social media.

 

Writes scripts for TV and radio commercials and works with PCC Agency of Record to get them produced. Also works with PCC Agency of Record to schedule media purchases. Maintains budgets for these purchases.

 

Performs general research and coordination for design projects and equipment, correspondence with vendors, and quote requests.

 

Plans topics to be included in annual customized magazine called "CareerFocus"; helps with layout and writing/compiling of articles and photographs.

 

Prints and files items for backup.

 

Receives and/or reviews a variety of reports and records such as quotes, website reports, invoices and newspaper copy.

 

Prepares and/or processes a variety of documentation such as ConEd budget spreadsheet, correspondence, and publication transmittal form.

 

Refers to policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.

 

Operates a variety of office equipment and machinery such as camera, duplicating equipment, computer, large

format printer, scanner, etc.

 

Uses a variety of tools such as ruler, Xacto knife, standard office tools, etc.; a variety of supplies such as computer supplies, artist supplies, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Adobe Creative Suite (including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign), Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, and WordPress (for website).

 

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Marketing Director, instructors, students, college administration, consultants, vendors, college donors, and the general public.

 

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members: Prints and mounts posters for events.  Performs related duties as directed.
