Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree 
  • Skilled masonry experience


Preferred Qualifications

  •   1-3 years teaching experience, preferably in the community college system
  •   Experience working in a Correctional Facility 

Position Description

Under general supervision of Dean, Mitchell County ConEd and Prison Programs, the instructor will prepare and teach assigned classes and fulfill other duties as needed. Instructor will also perform normal duties associated with the education of inmates, excluding any and/or all correctional officer duties.

Primary Duties:

  • Teach assigned classes
  • Provide classroom and course management in a manner that is consistent with appropriate professional conduct
  • Utilize methods of instruction and teaching techniques that are appropriate to the fulfillment of course goals and objectives
  • Furnish all data and reports in a timely manner as may be required by the Economic Workforce Development Division using appropriate forms and formats
  • Develop and maintain syllabi for classes within the department and provide a copy to  students the first week of class
  • Maintain accurate class rosters and submit same in the manner and at times required by the Department Dean
  • Attend instructor meetings as scheduled
  • Actively participate in instructor evaluation process
  • Notifies Department Dean of any absences or alterations in the class schedule in advance and in writing
  • Review and recommend textbooks, reference materials, software, audio visual aids, and learning resources for classroom use
  • Recommend curriculum revisions and modifications to supervisor
  • Assist in determining budget needs for program and recommend purchases of equipment and supplies when appropriate
  • Mentor new instructors as assigned by the supervisor
  • Assist the Department Dean in developing class schedules
  • Participate in graduation, pre-registration and registration exercises, and be available for student orientations as requested
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through reading professional publications and attending workshops and conferences as appropriate
  • Assist in areas outside the classroom which would enhance student/inmate interest and knowledge
  • EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Personal computer, word processor, typewriter, calculator, adding machine, fax machine, copy machine, telephone, and other course equipment specific to Prison programs and computer skills programs.
