Minimum Qualifications

Subject matter education and/or training and experience that have both the breadth and depth needed to ensure effective teaching in the appropriate subject areas per the guidelines as adopted by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and any appropriate governing agency.
Diploma or Associate Degree in Medical Assisting from a CAAHEP accredited medical assisting program or allied health science related field preferred
Medical assisting credential from a NCCA accredited credentialing organization as documented by official certificate or letter from the certifying organization, either Certified Medical Assistant(CMA) American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) preferred, or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) American Medical Technologies (AMT)
Faculty must be effective in teaching and knowledgeable in the MAERB Core Curriculum content included in their assigned teaching as documented by education or experience in the designated content area and have documented education in instructional methodology
Instructional methodology education may be demonstrated by workshops, in-services, seminars, or completed college courses on topics including learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques
One calendar year within the past three years of recent full-time medical office experience with strong administrative and clinical skills required
Demonstrated effective and professional written and oral communication skills and organizational skills
Demonstrated experience in teaching in a community college setting is a plus

Position Description

Part-time Medical Assisting Instructor responsibilities include assisting the Program Chair in the lab courses of MED 140 in fall and Med 150 in spring semester.
MED 140 Exam Room Procedures Tuesdays and Thursday 0900-1230

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement appropriate course goals and objectives along with evaluation methods that accurately measure student learning
Be thoroughly prepared for each instructional responsibility
Conduct learning activities that are consistent with course objectives
Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork and student records by stated deadlines
Ensure instructional materials comply with Americans and Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines

Related Responsibilities:

Work with program advisory committee as appropriate
Work with area Program Chair and Division Dean to order needed equipment and supplies
Comply with College policies and procedures
Remain current in the field of study
Participate in and help to develop recruitment and retention activities
Work cooperatively with faculty, staff and students in a congenial and professional manner
Exhibit a commitment to community college education and the concept of a learning-centered, open admissions institution
Demonstrated effective and professional written and oral communication skills and organizational skills
Commitment to the College’s diversity and inclusion initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned

Standard classroom environment, Laboratory

Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the classroom, operate and position computers, as needed; and frequently communicate with students. The employee may occasionally move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Scheduling:
This is a part-time position, with scheduling based on curriculum needs. Classes meet during the day, evening and online.

Travel:
Local travel may be required, including between campus locations.
