Minimum Qualifications

  1. An associate’s degree in Medical Office Administration, or a closely related discipline or a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, public health, or health science related field.
  2. Two or more years of health information technology, medical coding and billing, and records management experience.
  3. Knowledge of current Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT).
  4. Effective communication, both oral and written.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  6. Ability to teach specific courses included in the medical office and office administration programs.
  7. Willingness to teach in the day, evening, on Saturday, at unconventional times or via distance learning (i.e., Internet) as necessary.
  8. Ability to use technology (e.g. Internet) to facilitate student learning.
  9. Desire to participate in professional development activities, including those related to the use of critical thinking skills in instructional design and in student development.
  10. Commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.
  11. Desire to participate in community service activities.
  12. Willingness to participate in public school and university articulation, advisement, and recruitment programs of the College.
  13. Ability to carry out institutional effectiveness activities and participate in the life of the college (e.g. serve on committees, do advisement, participate in activities).
  14. Excellent references from previous employers.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in healthcare information technology, business administration, or a closely related discipline.
  2. Post-secondary teaching experience.
  3. Certified in Internal Classification of Diseases Clinical Modifications (ICD-10-CM) and Procedure Coding Systems (ICD-10-PCS).
  4. Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications in Access, Excel, and Word.
  5. Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
  6. Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.

Position Description

Since producing learning is the primary function of the college, it is the principal responsibility of each instructor to effectively and efficiently stimulate learning in every course.  In addition, each faculty member should provide guidance to students through their role as an academic advisor and in more informal ways.  Each faculty member is expected to participate in the governance of the college through committees and divisional meetings, through shared leadership within and across divisions, through personal recommendations to college administrators, and through participation in the Faculty Senate.

The successful candidate must begin work on August 7, 2020.  Salary is dependent upon qualifications, experience, and labor market. (Contract is for 9.5 months, but will be paid in 12 equal monthly installments.  Part-time/full-time faculty positions may be available for the summer semester.)
