Minimum Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree (JRCDMS does not specify major)
• Current certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one or both of the following specialties:
o Abdomen
o OB/GYN
Note: JRCDMS standards require that the program director hold credentials specific to the concentration offered; therefore, this position requires that the candidate hold credentials in both Abdomen and OB/Gyn. Any lacking certifications must be obtained within 3 months of hire and additional credentials may be required for future planned concentrations
• Minimum of two (2) years of full-time (defined as 35 hours per week) professional experience as a general sonographer and/or vascular technologist
• Documented experience as a clinical or didactic instructor in a general sonography and/or vascular sonography program (experience may have been attained concurrently with the professional experience and includes experience as a clinical preceptor)
• Proficiency in teaching methodology, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and guidance (may have been attained concurrently with the professional experience and includes experience as a clinical preceptor)
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Health Sciences or a related field
• Bachelor’s degree Medical Sonography, Health Sciences, or a related field
• Current certification by the ARDMS or ARRT in Vascular Sonography
• Current Certification by the ARDMS or CCI in Cardiac Sonography
• Previous experience with online instruction via a course management system such as Moodle
• Previous experience teaching in the community college system
• Membership in professional association for medical sonographers
• Knowledge and/or experience with learning outcomes assessment
• Demonstrated and documented innovation within the field of education and/or technology

Position Description

Job Description

The Medical Sonography Program Director is a full-time, 12-month position located primarily on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Department Chair of Health and Nursing, the Medical Sonography Program Director provides quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations in the Associate in Applied Science Medical Sonography program. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Medical Sonography program, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development and general effectiveness of the program curricula, and supervision/evaluation of clinical and didactic instructors. This individual also has responsibility for teaching and learning, curriculum development, advising, professional development, institutional service, and community relations.

Job Duties

• Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes, and delivery of instruction and services
• Develop learning strategies and curriculum that will promote successful teaching and learning in a learning-centered environment
• Facilitate learning through classroom activities, distance learning experiences, workforce development, and out-of-classroom activities
• Actively participate in continuous improvement planning through the assessment of learning outcomes at the course and program levels
• Select and use appropriate learning materials and resources, including textbooks, library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning and to maintain program currency
• Stay current with developments in the field of technology and learning theory
• Demonstrate high-level professionalism in developing and/or implementing long- and short-range plans in accordance with the philosophy of a learning-centered college
• Participate in institutional, advisory, and program/instruction committees, campus activities, and representation of the college in the community
• Develop strong partnerships with appropriate community stakeholders in support of program and college improvement
• Participate in program reviews, conduct research and surveys, and prepare updates, reports, and plans
• Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program to meet the needs of a learning-centered college
• Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position
• Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college
• Accept teaching assignments, based on the needs of the college, at one or more of the following locations: L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus (Monroe), or in community locations (Anson and/or Union counties)
• Accept teaching assignments scheduled during the day, evening, weekends, or online
• Participate in student recruitment, retention, advising, and registration activities
• Participate in or support the mentoring process, the SPCC Foundation, and grant identification, preparation, implementation, and evaluation
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the dean, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs
