Associate degree from an accredited college in business-related field or equivalent and two years of responsible clerical work including heavy public contact, counseling services and support to military and/or veterans and high quality customer service.

Preferred Qualifications

The various chapters of educational benefits under VA and eligibility criteria.

Military-related experience preferred (E5 or higher)

Position Description

Announcement Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Veterans Services Technician position located on the Fayetteville Campus. The ability to perform complex and varied technical work related to providing student assistance in the All American Veterans Center; provide information to students, faculty, and staff on veterans programs and services; and act as a certifying official for veterans educational benefit programs.

A comprehensive understanding of the principles, objectives, and philosophy of student support services within the framework of the College’s mission statement is essential. Qualified candidates will possess well developed interpersonal communication, organizational, and computer skills; demonstrate evidence of a career that includes flexibility and adaptation to change, open-mindedness, and mediation proficiency with the ability to see multiple perspectives; indicate a willingness to take risks and must be motivated toward professional and personal growth.

Duties

Greet All American Veterans Center visitors; respond to informational requests on programs, benefits, and services; answer telephones; receive and route mail.

Review and audit the work of designated clerical staff in assigned area of responsibility; establish work procedures and processes after consulting with the Veteran Services Coordinator.

Perform intake sessions with potential students, advising them of school, VA, and state requirements for the use of VA education benefits.

Complete the VA School Certifying Official (SCO) training; accurately certifying student veteran’s enrollment to VA for processing of education benefits.

Maintain technical expertise and knowledge of VA and state regulations to include reviews and updates of changes as they pertain to the student veteran’s certification of enrollment.

Process compliance checks through file reviews and initiate corrections/changes to include degree audits.

Participate in Compliance Survey by VA and supervisory visits by State Approving Agency.

Assist in catalog approval process for State Approving Agency.

Attend training sessions, meetings, and conferences when appropriate.

Assist in the development and maintenance of efficient and reliable data management systems.

Work independently in the absence of immediate supervisor.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Have Knowledge of:

Federal and state laws as they pertain to the certification of VA education benefits available to student veterans.

Operational characteristics of computers and related equipment.

Use standard office equipment including, telephone system, and computer equipment.

Skilled use Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, office procedures and processes.
