• Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in music from a regionally accredited institution • teaching experience at the community college level is preferred • prefer a broad background of academic coursework • prefer prior experience with online instruction

Position Description

This position is primarily responsible for designing and implementing music learning strategies for students; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; implementing strategies for student retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs and services; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • be thoroughly prepared for each lecture/applied music class • teaches assigned courses in classroom settings to meet program needs including, but not limited to, day, evening, weekend, and distance courses • evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback • develops course syllabi and provides appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria • explores, assesses, and implements appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning outcomes • prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy Related Responsibilities: • assists in the evaluation of courses • maintains communication and accessibility for students • attends appropriate College meetings • participates in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills • promotes College mission, values, and vision • other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • expertise in applicable area of music study • skill in the use of computers and commitment to use of technology in instruction • excellent oral and written communication skills • ability to work effectively and collegially with others • ability to plan and organize courses using a variety of teaching and learning strategies • ability to utilize effective classroom management skills • ability to employ effective and appropriate evaluations of student performance • ability to use instructional technology effectively • working knowledge of campus services for appropriate referral • effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies: o translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action o collaborating and facilitating o creating and innovating o anticipating and responding to change o providing vision and leadership o assessment of student learning o engagement and assessment of successful student retention models • an understanding of and commitment to open-access community college philosophy, teamwork, and diversity Surroundings/Environment: Standard classroom environment, usually indoors, away from elements, with moderate noise. Physical Effort: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the classroom, operate and position computers, as needed; and frequently communicate with students. The employee may occasionally move up to 15 pounds. Scheduling: This is a part-time position, with scheduling based on curriculum needs. Classes meet during the day, evening and online. Travel: Local travel may be required, including between campus locations.
