Position Description
The College Navigator will coordinate, develop, enhance and offer academic advising, planning, and support to students seeking enrollment at Stanly Community College. The College Navigator will visit local high schools to engage, inform, and assist potential students in the process of completing college paperwork and processes to be fully ready to enter the college upon graduation. Perform a variety of duties on-campus related to customer service, advising, admissions, records, financial aid, registration, retention, scheduling appointments, data entry, online assistance, and instructional assistance for students. This position requires excellent oral and written communication, attention to detail, and an outgoing personality with strong people skills. This position reports to the Dean of Advising.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Community College experience
- Visit local high schools to assist potential students with questions about applying to Stanly Community College.
- Assist potential and existing students with admissions and FAFSA applications.
- Advise and register students.
- Provide excellent customer service skills.
OTHER DUTIES:
Customer Service
- Greet and welcome students.
- Inquire about and discuss future goals.
- Daily front-desk activities: in-person, e-mail, phone, and chat inquiries and SCC social networks.
- Provide an honest, safe, confidential, and respectful environment where students can ask questions, express concerns, and discuss interests.
- Work with prospective, new, and continuing students.
Advising and Registration
- Provide information for the degree program.
- Assist students in choosing appropriate academic schedules.
- Assist students in online registration and on-campus registration.
- Maintain onestop@stanly.edu
- Respond to calls from the student kiosk.
- Connect students with campus resources (Success Coaches, counselors, Student Services, etc.)
- Participate in ongoing advisor training and call center training.
- Facilitate and document communication with Success Coaches.
Retention
- Assist retention efforts by contacting students with incomplete files and assist with obtaining missing documents.
- Help build and enhance the services offered by the Academic Support Center.
Appointment Scheduling
- Assist in scheduling placement testing dates.
- Schedule an appointment with a counselor or a Success Coach, following placement testing.
