- Must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree;
- Must have at least one year of full-time or equivalent outreach, recruiting, or student advocacy work experience in a higher education setting;
- Must have experience working with the academic, social, and economic challenges of students from diverse populations;
- Must have experience finding and evaluating resources related to student needs on and off campus;
- Must have experience with case management or working with multiple clients/students at one time;
- Valid driver’s license.

- Two years of full-time or equivalent work experience in outreach, recruiting or student advocacy work in a community college setting;
- Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
Position Description
Job Description Summary
This position is grant funded through June 30, 2025. Supports the efforts of multiple departments in the division to recruit, support, advise and coach potential students and enrolled students in their career training and decision making. Works in the community (potentially with Skills Training & Employment Program (STEP) and Workforce Innovative Opportunity Act (WIOA)) in partnership with NCWorks to engage and explain career options in the Con Ed division for short term program options. Supports the college-wide initiatives and mission of inclusion and equitable access to programming at A-B Tech. Coaches and supports students to achieve intended enrollment and completion in their program of study with advice for financial support, academic navigation, career options, and wrap-around supports as needed for each individual student.
Duties
- Identifies, establishes contact with and acts as a liaison for student navigation, coaching and advising for under represented students, including former students with financial barriers and current students with financial needs.
- Coaches students on the career options available through short-term programs and the job pathways available with each option.
- Directs students to the appropriate support services such as training for resume writing, interviewing skills and other job prep courses to provide comprehensive wrap around support for students.
- Advises students on the various financial options, to include grants to cover the program(s) of study.
- Maintains awareness of programs of study, courses, short-term training, and opportunities for students and community partners.
- Identifies students at risk or withdrawal students and works with appropriate college resources and services to assist and reengage students.
- Works with partnership employers, in the interest of the students, to conduct tours and ascertain employment needs and job skills. Engages with the STEP staff to assist with boots on the ground community work to engage underrepresented populations in the counties served by the college.
- Checks in with students once they are in a program to provide support and assistance as needed to be successful in their program.
- Compiles and collects data, sets up and maintains online and manual files; enters, modifies, and retrieves a variety of statistical data for special and regular reports. Reports data for grant reporting.
