Bachelor's degree with two years' experience working in secondary and/or post secondary education.  The applicant should demonstrate in their application experience working with the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to effectively communicate and interpret College policies and procedures. Knowledge of and experience with a student information management system, preferably Colleague

Position Description

Carteret Community College is accepting applications for a Career Coach. This is a full-time (12 month) position, grant funded through NC Works to support career and college pathways for middle and high school students. Apply online at www.carteret.edu. Resume in lieu of a completed application will not be accepted.  Applications will be accepted through 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019.   In person interviews will be conducted.   No Skype or phone interviews. 

The NC Works Career Coach will cultivate programs and services for the secondary school learner, so the individual can successfully enter and advance in a career path. The coach will help students evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personality characteristics in order to develop realistic academic and career goals by utilizing interviews,  advising sessions, interest, and aptitude assessment tests, and other methods

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
1. Career Exploration
a. Support outreach efforts involving secondary school learners to raise career awareness of opportunities and facilitate registration.
b. Support students' efforts for career pathways
c. Coordinate events and information designed to promote awareness of career pathways for students and parents
d. Follow a communication plan to ensure consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, etc.
e. Organize college campus/industry tours
2. Advising and Registration
a. Assist with academic/career advising and college course registration for high school learners
b. Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist in academic/career advising and registration of high school learners.
c. Provide information to college personnel regarding course needs for high school students
d. Responsible for knowledge of information related to High School, Community Colleges, Universities, Military Pathways policies and procedures as well as information related to community workforce development resources to provide students with timely information and guidance, assisting students in making informed decisions.
3. Support Services
a. Provide supportive interventions to help students succeed in high school/college courses; providing academic success strategies to facilitate successful transition, foster progression, and promote completion of credentials.
b. Arrange and assist with placement testing and provide test interpretation for high school learners
c. Monitor student progress in high school/college classes and work with students, parents/guardians, and instructors to develop plans for success, i.e., track attendance, academic progress, early warning
d. Assist in communicating policy and procedure information to students and parents
e. Conduct workshops and classroom visits with enrolled students at the high school and enhanced partnership to inform and instruct the students concerning Pathways requirements
f. Recommend procedures for maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines, e.g., coordination ADA & IDEA, and FERPA, etc.
Other Duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Ability to sit and/or stand for periods of time; ability to lift 10-15 pounds to set up recruiting materials and equipment; ability to move from building to building on and off campus for recruitment events.
