  • 3-5 years of network security administration experience in either Microsoft or CISCO preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Security or network administration certifications a plus.

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under general direction, performs a variety of technical duties by providing technical support including coordination, maintenance, upgrades and overall support for network systems; administers, evaluates and modifies systems to assure proper security and operation; plans, coordinates, and implements network system software program release changes; resolves technology problems and provides system enhancements; provides technical support and assistance to clients.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primarily responsible for network systems security, maintenance, upgrades, patches, enhancements, monitoring and end-user security
  • Maintains and documents network configurations; provides network configuration management documentation
  • Deploys, configures, maintains, troubleshoots, and monitors active network equipment and software.
  • Handles the responsibility for network address assignment, assignment of routing protocols, and routing table configuration, VPN, etc.
  • Administers security devices such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems; applies access lists on routers to restrict traffic flow. Manages switch configurations and maintains backups of all configuration files.
  • Serves as backup to systems administrator for organizations network and virtual servers as needed including backup appliances and services
  • Provides guidance to entire IT staff regarding network, network security and other issues.
  • Installs and maintains physical network infrastructure as needed. Coordinates with outside vendors on large network projects and functions as a project manager reporting to the Chief Information Officer.
  • Evaluates, recommends, implements, and ensures systems security as well as, equipment and software capability; researches and resolves problems; makes technical recommendations.
  • Researches and evaluates Brunswick Community College (BCC) hardware and software requirements; configures, installs and maintains BCC software to support and ensure day-to-day operations of current network infrastructure and related systems.
  • Reviews vendor software bulletins to identify potential problems; installs updates and modifications as required. Maintains standardized industry benchmarks security.
  • Confers with program product vendors regarding new product releases and problem resolutions.
  • Possesses positive and professional outlook, personal integrity, problem solving ability and ability to handle stress.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and support of College policies and procedures
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Internet along with other standard office applications
  • Must have the ability and vocabulary required to communicate with all levels of staff, faculty, subordinates, students, and the public in the performance of the job
  • Skills in operating, installing, maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting a variety of highly technical computers, servers and peripherals; systems analysis and information system concepts, techniques, and operating principles; program specification, designing, testing and prototyping Computer programming ability
  • Maintain a customer focus in providing technology services to the College’s community
