Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment/machinery.
  • Use active listening skills.
  • Be proactive, anticipate problems, and try to solve them independently.
  • Be a team player,
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy tasks, 35-45 pounds (Lift minimum 30 pounds).
  • Follow verbal or written instructions
  • Work independently.
  • Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Physically able to perform manual work involving stooping, bending, lifting and carrying.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience demonstrates the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/SKILLS:

Required: High School Diploma or GED required;

Preferred: Bilingual; Career Readiness Certificate (CRC)

EXPERIENCE:

Required:  Some experience in custodial/janitorial environment required; must be able to perform medium to heavy tasks, lift 35-45 pounds, ability to operate mechanical equipment; must have knowledge of industrial/commercial cleaning methods/procedures and equipment/machinery.

Preferred: Some building maintenance experience

HIRING SALARY RANGE

MINIMUM HIRING SALARY: $24,168.00 Annually

MAXIMUM HIRING SALARY: Depends on qualifications

 

To be responsible for regular preventive and routine building maintenance in assigned areas concentrating upon safety and a clean environment for students, teachers, faculty, and staff.  Under the supervision of the Director of Physical Facilities and Housekeeping Supervisor, the custodial staff is charged with the responsibility of keeping the buildings and grounds clean, neat, and free of hazards allowing for a safe, clean, and presentable environment.  This position reports to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.   • Provide regular preventive and routine building maintenance to keep all classrooms, hallways, toilets, and offices clean, orderly, grounds, and sanitary on a continuing basis. 
  • Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, and shampoo floors and/or carpets. 
  • Remove trash from all areas, including exterior entrances. 
  • Scrub, wash, and buff all terrazzo and vinyl tile floors. 
  • Clean toilets and restock maintenance supplies and materials. 
  • Wash and clean windows, doors, and walls. 
  • Keep warehouse shelves updated with supplies. 
  • Clean Maintenance Complex (weekly). 
  • Clean custodial equipment. 
  • Setup for workshops, and meetings on campus. 
  • Check for security of campus buildings.
  • Reports to supervisor or director damages and needed repairs requiring outside attention.
  • Clean floors, walls, windows, carpets, shelves, doorsills, equipment, doors, waste cans, chalkboards/whiteboards, bathrooms, woodwork, and fixtures in areas assigned. This includes polishing floors, cleaning lab tables, and removing cobwebs and dust.
  • Spot clean carpets and remove gum from surfaces.
  • Lock and unlock doors, assuring that buildings and rooms are secure.
  • Sanitize restrooms in assigned areas, replenish soap, paper supplies, and dispose of hazardous materials or body fluids properly.
  • Perform stripping, waxing, and buffing of floors; wash and clean buffing pads and cleaning cloths. 
  • Prepare facilities for classes, meetings, and special events; assist with moving campus furniture and supplies as needed. 
  • Sweep sidewalks and floor mats in entrances, empty trash containers at building entrances. 
  • Wash mirrors, door glass, and windows (inside and out). 
  • Clean, polish, and sanitize water fountains. 
  • Be knowledgeable of and follow safety procedures when using cleaning chemicals; ability to select the appropriate chemical for each cleaning task.
